Bollywood has a long history of remaking already-released movies, with some of the most iconic films in Indian cinema being recreated with fresh casts, concepts, and creative approaches while retaining the original storyline. Movies like Chashme Badoor, Agneepath, and Umrao Jaan have already undergone this transformation, captivating audiences with their new interpretations. Adding to this trend, recent news reveals that Bollywood will soon witness the remakes of three more beloved films: Bawarchi, Mili, and Khamoshi.
The task of remaking these movies will be undertaken by Anushree Mehta and Abir Sengupta of Jaadugar Films, in collaboration with Sameer Raj Sippy, the grandson of renowned producer NC Sippy. These talented individuals, known for their work under their production company SRS Productions, will be spearheading the efforts to recreate these beloved classics.
About films Koshish, Bawarchi and Mili
Koshish, directed by Gulzar in 1972, tells the touching story of a deaf-mute couple, played by Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bachchan, as they face life’s challenges with love and raise a family.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Bawarchi, also released in 1972, brings laughter with the tale of Raghu, played by Rajesh Khanna, a quirky cook who transforms a dysfunctional joint family.
Lastly, Mukherjee’s 1975 film, Mili, showcases Jaya Bachchan as the spirited titular character, whose optimism captivates Amitabh Bachchan’s initially aggressive persona.
Mehta and Sengupta, the producers of the remakes, recognize the immense responsibility associated with recreating the films. They said, “It is a huge responsibility as ‘Koshish’, ‘Bawarchi’ and ‘Mili’ are celebrated in India and across the globe which have been made by the legendary Gulzar Saab and Hrishi da who have set the standards of filmmaking for generations to come.”
While progressing through various stages of development, the production team plans to unveil the talented cast and crew for these remakes soon.
