If there’s one thing about Kangana Ranaut, it’s her honesty. Fearless, unapologetic, and fiercely independent, she’s shaking up Bollywood. She’s also deeply involved in politics, making waves on both fronts. Despite her success, even Kangana admits balancing both careers isn’t easy.
In a candid chat with Variety, the ‘Queen’ of Bollywood let us in on a little secret: her film career is taking a bit of a backseat thanks to her growing political responsibilities. As a Member of Parliament representing Mandi for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kangana is as hands-on as they come. Whether it’s handling the fallout from devastating floods in her constituency or juggling the demands of parliament, she’s got her plate full.

Kangana didn’t mince words when she confessed, “Being a parliamentarian is a very demanding job. Especially in my constituency, we’ve had floods, so I am all over the place. I have to go to Himachal and see to it that things are being taken care of.” But while she’s busy being a force for change in the political arena, her film projects are stuck in limbo. “My film work is suffering,” she admitted. “My projects are waiting. I’m not able to start my shoots,” she said.
Despite the chaos, Kangana remains unfazed. She’s committed to both her roles, even if it means putting her Bollywood career on hold from time to time. “I’m very open, and whatever needs me more and engages me more as a person, eventually I’ll take that route,” she said, reflecting on her jam-packed schedule. “But right now, it’s just way too much happening in my life,” she said.
In true Kangana style, she’s not slowing down. Next, she’s playing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Her upcoming film, Emergency, hits the big screen on September 6, 2024. Balancing politics and acting is tough, but wait until you see her as the Iron Lady.
