Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s much-hyped Jigra hit the screens on October 11, 2024, promising a gripping tale of sisterly love and the lengths one would go to protect family. But while the movie was busy riding the hype wave, it seems controversy wasn’t far behind. Enter Divya Khosla Kumar, who’s not holding back with some fiery accusations. She’s calling out Jigra for allegedly copying her film Savi and throwing major shade at the box office numbers.
Divya khosla Kumar Calls Out Karan Johar and Drops Truth Bombs on the film jigra
It all started when Divya shared a picture of a near-empty theater showing Jigra, accusing Alia Bhatt of buying up tickets to inflate the movie’s box office figures. The clapback? Producer Karan Johar shared a cryptic post that read, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools.” Divya wasn’t about to let that slide and fired back with, “Truth always offends fools opposed to it.” And just like that, the stage was set for some serious Bollywood drama.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Divya didn’t mince words about Karan’s “derogatory” comments. She said, “Today when I speak up, Mr Karan Johar uses derogatory language to shut me down. Is it right to call a woman a fool for pointing out unethical practices? If this happens to me, what about those new to the industry? No one is a king here, and I won’t be treated like a subject. There are many more derogatory words which were used in their PR articles and called my taking a stand as a PR stunt. I’m sorry, I don’t need one. I’m already well known.“
Divya on Jigra‘s Box Office and Alia’s Stardom
Divya insists that Alia Bhatt doesn’t need to resort to underhanded tactics, after all, she’s a bona fide star. But she believes the audience should be the real judge based on the movie’s merit, not power plays and manipulated numbers.
According to Divya, Jigra didn’t just borrow the storyline, it also seems to be bending the box office truth. She’s throwing some serious side-eye at the inflated numbers, revealing that despite seeing nearly empty theaters, the film’s opening figures were suspiciously high.
Fake Collections? Empty Theaters? Divya’s Ready to Spill the Tea
Divya doesn’t hold back as she airs her grievances, saying, “After Covid, smaller production houses have shut down, and only those with money survive. I saw an empty theatre, yet Jigra’s opening figures were inflated. That needs serious correction,” she said, adding that false numbers are put out for certain films. “We are creative people, we are not in a share market, and by giving fake box office numbers, certain media persons also highlight bad films. When good films work, no one talks about that. These people decide which film is will be declared a hit- as tickets are bought and fake collections are announced. And that’s why only those people will be able to survive here, who have money. New talent, will never be able to enter,”
About Jigra
With Vasan Bala at the helm, Jigra was supposed to be the movie that took emotional thrillers to a whole new level. Instead, it’s found itself in the middle of an industry feud that has everyone talking. Alongside Alia Bhatt, Jigra also stars Vedang Raina. If you haven’t watched the film yet, you can run to the nearest theatres.
