New Visa Options for GCC Residents to Perform Umrah Announced

Saudi Arabia simplifies Umrah travel for GCC residents with new visa options

Saudi Arabia has introduced new visa options that allow residents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to perform Umrah with ease. In addition to the traditional Umrah visa, GCC residents can now use transit and tourist visas for their pilgrimage. This move is part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative to improve accessibility and enhance the overall religious tourism experience.

Transit Visa Allows Pilgrims to Perform Umrah

Travelers passing through Saudi Arabia can now take advantage of the transit visa, which permits a stay of up to 96 hours. This option is particularly beneficial for those with layovers in Saudi Arabia, as it enables them to perform Umrah during their stopover. The transit visa can be applied for when booking flights with Saudi-based airlines and is a cost-effective and convenient way for GCC residents to visit the holy sites.

Tourist Visa for Umrah Pilgrims

In addition to the transit visa, GCC residents can also apply for a Saudi tourist visa, which allows them to perform Umrah and explore various cultural and historical sites. This visa can be obtained online through Saudi Arabia’s official platforms, making it an accessible option for those planning a trip to the Kingdom.

How to Apply for a Transit Visa for Umrah?

For those interested in performing Umrah using a transit visa, the application process is simple:

  • Book a Flight – Passengers traveling with Saudi-based airlines can apply for a transit visa while booking their flight.
  • Submit the Application – The visa request can be completed online through the airline’s portal.
  • Receive the Visa – Upon approval, travelers will receive an electronic visa, which allows them to stay in Saudi Arabia for up to four days.
  • Perform Umrah – Once in the Kingdom, pilgrims can proceed to Makkah and Medina for their spiritual journey.

Prior Booking Required for Al Rawdah Al Sharif

While the new visa options simplify access to Makkah, visiting Al Rawdah Al-Sharif at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina requires prior booking. Pilgrims must secure their visit through the official Nusuk application before arrival to ensure a smooth experience.

Expanding Religious Tourism Under Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia has been actively working towards making Umrah more accessible as part of its Vision 2030 goals. By offering multiple visa options, the Kingdom aims to accommodate a larger number of pilgrims and improve their experience with streamlined procedures and digital booking platforms.

These efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing religious tourism while maintaining high service standards for all visitors.

With the introduction of transit and tourist visas for Umrah, Saudi Arabia has made it significantly easier for GCC residents to undertake their pilgrimage. This initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s long-term vision of improving access to holy sites and promoting religious tourism. We encourage pilgrims to check visa requirements and book their visits in advance for a seamless spiritual journey.
