The agreement was signed during the 17th edition of Middle East Rail, the MENA region and South Asia’s largest and most renowned transportation event. The new deal will help create dedicated Uber pick-up and drop-off areas within stations to enable passengers to plan their journey better.
Through the agreement, Etihad Rail and Uber’s aim to build accessible and interconnected transportation systems across the UAE, including in areas with limited accessibility.
“Our goal is to improve the living standards and welfare of the residents and facilitate commuting among all areas of the country quickly, efficiently, comfortably, and affordably. We look forward to working closely with Uber and hope to benefit from their expertise in global transportation through technology,” said Nicolas Pertovic, chief executive officer, Etihad Rail Mobility.

Etihad Rail is currently operational for freight only
The Etihad Rail service is currently operational for freight only and it remains unknown when it will open for passengers. The ambitious project contributes to strengthening the country’s preparations for the future. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, affirmed that the national railway network is an important milestone in the UAE’s development journey.
The project is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region and aims to link the seven emirates with a main railway network. Etihad Rail made the grand announcement in a new video on Twitter. The post was captioned: “Inspired by the spirit of unity and the guidance of our leadership, we have taken important steps towards connecting the Emirates through the UAE’s National Railway Network from Al Ghwaifat all the way to Fujairah, and shows tunnels and tracks being laid down.”
400 passengers will be transported when the passenger train service begins between 11 cities and regions in the UAE, from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the north. It will allow for a 50-minute train ride from Abu Dhabi to Dubai.
Currently, the Etihad Rail track passes through the Fujairah Mountains and the Al Maha Forest in Abu Dhabi while carrying freight across the nation.
