In a bold step to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s position as a global aviation hub, Etihad Airways has introduced seven new routes that will connect the capital to culturally and economically significant cities across Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
Etihad’s expansion boosts its network and aligns with the UAE’s goal to be a top global hub.
New destinations take off in 2025–2026
Etihad’s new additions will roll out progressively between November 2025 and March 2026. The destinations include:
- Medina, Saudi Arabia
- Baku, Azerbaijan
- Yerevan, Armenia
- Tbilisi, Georgia
- Almaty, Kazakhstan
- Bucharest, Romania
- Tashkent, Uzbekistan
These routes offer more non-stop travel options from Abu Dhabi, cutting down on transit times and creating smoother connections for both business and leisure travellers. The frequency of flights will vary by route, with most operating several times a week.
Stronger access for UAE travellers and visitors
This expansion is expected to benefit a broad segment of travellers in the UAE, especially residents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi who frequently travel for business or family reasons. For those with roots in Central Asia and Eastern Europe, the added connectivity brings greater ease for visits home or hosting family in the Emirates.
The destinations are also popular with UAE tourists seeking offbeat yet accessible getaways. UAE tourists love offbeat gems like Georgia, Armenia, and Kazakhstan for their stunning views, easy visas, and year-round charm.
Supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision as a global hub
This route expansion is more than just network growth—it reflects a strategic effort to place Abu Dhabi on the global map as a transit, business, and tourism hub. The increased connectivity is expected to support the emirate’s hospitality, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions), and retail sectors by facilitating the arrival of more international visitors.
The airline’s decision also comes as the Zayed International Airport continues to build its profile with upgraded infrastructure and seamless passenger services, making it a preferred gateway for regional and global travellers.
Seasonal appeal and cultural connections
Etihad has taken into account both seasonal demand and cultural ties when selecting these destinations. Cities such as Tbilisi, Almaty, and Yerevan are emerging as top picks for UAE residents during the summer and winter seasons due to their favourable climates and tourism offerings.
On the other hand, routes like Medina cater to the spiritual and religious needs of the community, offering more frequent and direct options for those travelling for Umrah or visiting family in the Kingdom.
Meanwhile, destinations like Bucharest and Baku strengthen economic corridors, connecting the UAE with rapidly developing markets in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.
Travellers urged to plan ahead
With these routes launching ahead of the peak travel period in 2025–2026, UAE residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for early announcements on ticket availability and flight schedules. The added frequency and direct access will likely drive strong demand, especially for the culturally rich destinations now more accessible from the capital.
Etihad Airways’ continued network expansion underscores its role in supporting the UAE’s broader tourism and economic vision. The newly added routes not only bring more options for residents and visitors but also align with the growing demand for culturally immersive and convenient travel experiences.
Etihad’s new links spotlight Abu Dhabi’s rise as a global aviation force and its role in shaping the UAE’s mobility future.
