Emirates Airline Trains More Than 24,000 Cabin Crew & Ground Staff On Hidden Disabilities

Emirates Airlines ensures that its passengers have the best flying and in-ground experience. And to ensure that travellers with hidden disabilities, including- Autism have a good time with Emirates, the airline, in collaboration with Dubai Airport, has trained more than 4,000 global cabin crew and ground staff for hidden disabilities including Autism. Emirates Airlines aims to make the travel experience for Autistic travellers more seamless and has implemented additional thoughtful measures to ensure passenger comfort onboard. The cabin crew and ground staff took an online course which was launched in 2022 and covered a varied range of topics. From the UAE National Policy for People of Determination, recognising autism, practical tips on how to assist passengers with hidden disabilities, responding with empathy, and information on the official support systems to help passengers in the airport, everything was covered in this course.

Emirates Aims To Ensure That Boarding Process Is Seamless For Autistic Passengers

As a part of this training, Emirates will provide passengers with hidden disabilities with all the possible information in advance as possible, so that families can plan, rehearse, and be reassured about their upcoming travel. Besides this, the airline is also offering free seat selection and bulkhead seats for autistic passengers and companions. For such travellers, the airline has also launched a service request code- DPNA code, that they can use while booking in person, via telephone or travel agent. Once the hidden disability is declared, the passenger will be supported throughout their journey with assistance from trained staff.

Passengers needing special meals onboard if they have a sensory sensitivity can book for the same with Emirates Airline. The meal can be ordered at least 24 hours in advance on www.Emirates.com or the Emirates app. One can pick from gluten-free meals, bland meals, vegetarian and diabetic meals. For Kids Meals, families who are travelling with an autistic passenger may contact the Emirates local office with their request in advance.

In Flight, Preps Are Done Keeping Their Needs & Requirements In Mind

Furthermore, Emirates Airlines also has complimentary two hours parking for people of determination and a priority boarding option, depending on the passenger’s preference. In flight, the autistic passenger will also have noise-cancelling earphones, light sensitivity options, and various entertainment options.

To improve the travel experience for passengers with hidden disabilities, Emirates continues to associate with multiple stakeholders, including Dubai Airports, General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai Customs, Dubai Police, Dubai Autism Centre and Dubai Economy and Tourism. The airline is committed to working to help create a world where neurodivergent individuals feel accepted, represented, included, empowered, and heard.
