Dubai is home to some of the most pristine, picturesque beaches in the UAE. And to ensure that the beaches are always in the best shape, Dubai Municipality keeps working on the development of the public beaches. In fact, as per the latest update, Dubai Municipality has completed an AED93 million revamp of beaches in Dubai. Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1 have gotten a makeover and here’s everything you must know.
Public Beaches Get A Makeover By Dubai Municipality
With new beach protection rules in place, Dubai Municipality has also added 112,000 square metres of space for recreational and leisure activities. The project, launched in 2020 under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, aims to protect Dubai’s public beaches by taking several security measures to ensure stability and sustainability.
When it comes to beaches, the Al Mamzar Corniche Beach project involved the reclamation of 9,000 square metres of land and the installation of the 100-metre-long protective rocky belt. Whereas, the size of Jumeirah 1 beach now has 125,000 cubic metres of beach sand and the coastal buffers are increased by 160 metres. Jumeirah 3 is supplied with 580,000 cubic metres of beach sand along with the installation of 30,400 cubic metres of rock protection.
When it comes to Umm Suqeim 1, the public beach has undergone a 30,000-square-metre land expansion, and the beach area has increased by approx 500 metres. Dubai Municipality aims to spend 450,000 working hours annually to maintain the public beaches in Dubai.
Besides the development of public beaches, Dubai Municipality is working on the hiking trail project which will be open to the public from June 20th. Touted to be the first-of-its-kind in Dubai, this hiking trail will have an 8.3 km yellow recreational track and a 1.4 km orange sports course. The orange sports course is for skilled athletes with good fitness and endurance. You will be able to access the hiking trail from June 20th, and it includes tons of things. From signs to guide people to wooden stairways and bridges, we are sure you’ll enjoy hikes on this trail.
Dubai Municipality Has Also Issued Some Directives For Hikers
The hiking trail will also feature a dedicated rest area, and the Dubai Municipality has established several guidelines you must follow. As per the authorities, having a phone for emergencies, carrying enough water, and wearing hiking-appropriate clothes and shoes is a must. Besides, children between the ages of 12 and 15 can use the hiking track; however, they must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Mushrif National Park is already home to a 50km sand bike track, and hikers are advised to follow all the rules and safety instructions laid down by Dubai Municipality. If you are planning to go for a hike once the trail is open ensure that you walk in the direction of the path and stay on the designated track.
