night swimming now permitted in Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim 1

Earlier, beaches in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah permitted nighttime swimming, thanks to the Dubai Municipality’s new initiative. The civic organization made this disclosure at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM). However, one more beach has now been added to this list.

Dubai Municipality has further expanded its beach tourism offering with the opening of three new beaches for night swimming in Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim 1. The 800-metre-long night-swimming beaches feature lighting systems, which enable residents and tourists to swim around the clock, and electronic screens that display content aimed at increasing safety awareness among beachgoers.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: “The new night-swimming beaches are part of Dubai Municipality’s efforts to contribute to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make the emirate the world’s best place to live and visit. The initiative also forms part of the Municipality’s beach development plan aimed at providing distinctive experiences. The new facilities will further raise Dubai’s status as a beach tourism destination. Dubai Municipality will continue to develop the emirate’s picturesque beaches into some of the city’s most compelling outdoor attractions.”

Bader Anwahi, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality (DM) said that Dubai is a city that’s alive 24/7. So, when tourists go around the city during the day, they miss out on being able to enjoy the beach, because after sunset swimming is not allowed. In order to give them an opportunity to enjoy this part of Dubai, the authorities have sanctioned the night-time beach swimming facility.

what are the rules for night swimming?

To enhance safety, Dubai Municipality recommends that beachgoers engage in night swimming only in designated zones and avoid going into the sea from other areas. The Municipality also emphasised the importance of safety awareness, compliance with beach rules and regulations, constant monitoring of children, and adherence to lifeguards’ instructions, in addition to maintaining the highest possible cleanliness.

To ensure the new move is safe for tourists and residents, new lighting systems have been installed at select beaches in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah. In addition, the beaches are also fitted with LED screens that provide directions and instructions on what to do. These screens have already been installed and they will begin operating shortly.

Last, but not the least, there will also be lifeguards manning the shores during the nighttime activity. “We want to ensure the safety and security of our visitors so there will be rescue personnel around at these beaches at night,” Bader said.
