Dubai’s New Salik Toll Gates to Go Live November 24

Aiming to Smooth Traffic Flow

Starting November 24, two new Salik toll gates will officially operate in Dubai, marking a significant step towards easing traffic congestion on some of the city’s busiest roads. Placed strategically at the Business Bay Gate on Al Khail Road and the Al Safa South Gate on Sheikh Zayed Road, these additions will increase the Salik toll gates in Dubai to 10 in total.

Why These New Gates? A Step Towards Smoother Commutes

The locations are chosen to ease commutes and balance traffic on Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road. According to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), studies showed that these roads experience heavy congestion daily, affecting both local drivers and commuters.

With these tolls in place, the RTA expects to reduce traffic congestion by around 15% on these routes, with immediate benefits for drivers who can now plan their routes around the improved flow. By redirecting vehicles more efficiently, the new toll gates will likely improve daily travel times and minimize peak-hour traffic stress, especially in critical areas like the Business Bay and Al Safa districts.

Boost in Revenue and Benefits for Investors

For Salik, these new gates are projected to generate a 7-8% increase in annual revenue from tolls, a promising forecast following its successful IPO. Salik’s shares, initially offered at Dh2, have since surged, reflecting growing investor confidence in Dubai’s urban planning and toll management strategies. Salik recorded over 300 million trips through its eight gates in the first half of 2024, showing the expanded network could drive gains while meeting Dubai’s growing traffic needs.

What Commuters Should Know

The toll system will follow a single-charge policy for drivers who pass both the Al Safa South and North Gates within an hour. We balance effective traffic management and affordability to ensure drivers aren’t overcharged for short trips.

Dubai’s population and vehicle numbers are steadily rising, making the new toll gates essential for sustainable urban mobility. The expansion backs RTA’s vision, encouraging public transport over driving.

What’s Next for Salik and Dubai’s Road Network?

The new Business Bay and Al Safa South Gates highlight Dubai’s commitment to a modern road network. This is part of the
RTA’s strategy is to expand public transit and upgrade infrastructure for the city’s growth.

These new toll gates will reduce bottlenecks in high-traffic areas and offer drivers smoother, more predictable commutes. The streamlined routes should provide relief to millions of drivers each year while enhancing connectivity across Dubai’s roadways.
