Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that over 7.58 million people used public, shared, and taxi transport services across the city during the Eid Al Adha 2025 holiday period. The total marks a 14 per cent increase from the same time last year, reflecting Dubai’s growing dependence on smart, integrated mobility.
The ridership surge highlights the success of the city’s multi-modal network in handling the demands of a busy festive period, while also underlining the public’s confidence in reliable, safe, and accessible transport options offered by the RTA.

Metro remains the preferred choice with 2.78 million riders
The Dubai Metro once again proved to be the city’s most relied-upon public transit option. Across the Red and Green lines, the metro carried approximately 2.786 million riders during the Eid break. With seamless access to key neighbourhoods, malls, and tourist destinations, the metro continues to set the benchmark for efficient urban mobility in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Tram transported 119,917 passengers, providing smooth connectivity across Dubai Marina, JBR, and Al Sufouh.
Taxis see heavy demand across the city
Dubai’s extensive taxi network, including Hala Taxi and franchise operators, recorded 2.196 million riders over the holiday period. Taxis remained in high demand for last-mile connectivity, late-night travel, and family outings — especially during peak hours when roads and malls were bustling with celebrants.
The convenience of booking via mobile apps, coupled with the wide coverage across the city, played a key role in supporting the uptick in ridership.
Public buses and marine transport also in the spotlight
Public buses moved a substantial 1.663 million passengers over the Eid holiday, providing reliable and cost-effective connectivity across neighbourhoods, business districts, and key transport interchanges. Thanks to frequent services and dedicated lanes in busy corridors, buses remain an important component of RTA’s overall strategy.
Dubai’s marine transport also witnessed notable traction, ferrying 307,684 passengers through abras, water taxis, and Dubai Ferry services. These water-based transport modes not only ease traffic but also offer a scenic alternative — especially attractive during festive evenings along Dubai Creek and the Marina.
Shared transport services cater to over half a million riders
Dubai’s evolving shared mobility ecosystem also played a vital role, serving 504,159 riders over the Eid Al Adha break. This includes e-hailing services, carpooling platforms, and on-demand ride options that continue to gain traction among both residents and tourists.
These numbers reflect a broader trend in the city’s mobility landscape — a shift towards flexible, tech-driven travel that aligns with the needs of a fast-paced urban environment.
RTA’s operational planning ensures smooth citywide mobility
Behind the impressive numbers is a meticulously coordinated effort by the RTA to manage service frequencies, extend operational hours, and deploy additional resources in anticipation of the Eid rush. The authority’s use of real-time monitoring and smart planning ensured that public transport operated efficiently even at peak loads.
This success demonstrates Dubai’s capacity to handle high commuter volumes while maintaining service quality — a core element of its goal to increase the share of public transport in total trips to 30% by 2030.
A clear signal of Dubai’s transport future
The 14% year-on-year increase in ridership sends a strong message: Dubai’s residents are increasingly trusting public and shared transportation as their go-to option — not just during events, but as a lifestyle shift.
With continued investment in infrastructure, innovation, and sustainability, the city is building a public transport ecosystem that is resilient, future-ready, and inclusive for all communities.
A step closer to smarter, greener urban living
Eid Al Adha 2025 ridership stats are more than just numbers — they’re a reflection of a city on the move, powered by planning, innovation, and public trust. As Dubai grows, so does its ambition to lead the region in sustainable urban mobility.
