Dubai Expo City will undergo a significant transformation with a AED 10 billion expansion project to double its event capacity. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, recently approved this ambitious plan, which will make the Dubai Exhibition Centre the largest indoor exhibition venue in the region.
A Vision for the Future
The expansion is part of the broader Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which envisions transforming the Expo 2020 site into a long-term economic and cultural hub. The project will proceed in three phases, with the first phase set to be completed by 2026. This initial phase will expand the exhibition space to 140,000 square meters.
Enhancing Infrastructure
By 2028, the second phase will expand the space to 160,000 square meters and enhance infrastructure. By 2031, the final phase will increase the indoor space to 180,000 square meters with 26 halls on one level.
Economic and Cultural Impact
This expansion is not just about increasing space; it is about positioning Dubai as a global leader in the events and exhibitions sector. The revamped exhibition center will host global events across entertainment, media, and technology. This move will significantly boost the local economy, tourism, and elevate Dubai’s status as a global economic hub.
Commitment to Excellence
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted the project’s role in making Dubai a top destination for major events. He stated that the venue will set new global standards and become the region’s largest indoor exhibition space.
