Eid Al Fitr is around the corner and Dubai is looking its festive best. Every nook and corner of the city creams festive deals and sale this time of the year. And this is not reserved just for the food and beverage or the retail sector. Like always, residents come first for Dubai authorities and like every year, this year too the RTA has announced free public parking hours during the Eid holidays.

Dubai residents can enjoy free public parking during the Eid break, the RTA has confirmed. However, the rule does not apply to multi-level parking spaces. Residents can enjoy four or five days of free parking depending on the moon sighting, which will indicate the start of the Islamic festival.
As of now, free parking will begin on Thursday, April 20 (Ramadan 29) and will remain free until Shawwal 3 (Islamic Hijri calendar month). Paid parking will then be applicable from Shawwal 4, the RTA added.
On Thursday, April 20, the UAE’s moon-sighting committee will meet to decide whether Eid will fall on Friday, April 21, or Saturday, April 22. Parking will be free from Thursday through Sunday, if Eid falls on a Friday. If Eid is on Saturday, parking will be free from Thursday through Monday.
As per the recent tweet posted by International Astronomy Centre, Eid Al Fitr could fall on Saturday, April 22, a day later than previously expected, however, the date will be confirmed based on the moon sighting. Besides, the authorities have also clarified that Eid could be announced on different days, depending on where you live. Read on for all the deets.

The committee will meet on Thursday, April 20 to sight the crescent Moon and only then the final dates for Eid Al Fitr will be announced.
Besides in a new initiative, the RTA announced that UAE citizens will be able to park for FREE near their homes. UAE citizens can now apply for a special online permit, which allows them to park for free near their homes. The new service can be availed for all paid parking slots in areas within a radius of 500 metres from the place of residence. The number of permits one can apply online depends on the size of the house.
A house which has one room or a hall or a studio apartment gets two permits, while one with two rooms and a hall will be eligible for three permits. Additionally, a house with three rooms and a hall can apply for four permits for free. The processing of the application will take two days, after which the permit will be sent to you by email.
On another note, residents can avail the seasonal parking permits- which come in two categories:
Category A- This can be used for paid parking zones A,B,C and D in Dubai. Prices for a 1 month card starts at AED 500.
Category B- This category can only be used in paid parking zones B and D. Prices for a 1 month card starts at AED 250.
The paid parking facility can be used in all locations except Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, Knowledge Village, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Deira Fish market, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Gold Souq.
