There’s something undeniably different about travelling through Dubai. And now, the world agrees. Dubai International Airport (DXB) has just been recognised as the world’s number one airport for food and shopping, according to the AirHelp Score 2025.
Passengers flying through DXB aren’t just passing time—they’re indulging in curated dining experiences, high-end retail, and effortless convenience. The airport scored an impressive 9.1 out of 10 in the category of food and shopping, outranking hundreds of international counterparts.

UAE Airports Secure Global Recognition
Dubai didn’t stop at topping the food and shopping chart. It also landed in 18th place globally in the overall rankings. And right behind, Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) made its mark at 19th, showing how both cities are setting new benchmarks in regional and global aviation.
These scores weren’t based on perception alone. The rankings factored in three key elements: punctuality, passenger experience, and food and retail services.
The results speak volumes about the UAE’s consistent push to raise airport standards—offering passengers more than a journey. They’re offering a polished, seamless travel experience.
GCC Airports Are Rapidly Rising
In a shift from previous years, the Gulf region now claims 8 out of the top 20 global airport spots, with airports across the Middle East investing heavily in passenger-focused upgrades.
Doha’s Hamad International Airport climbed to second place globally. Known for its elegant layout and punctual service, it continues to be a quiet frontrunner in the region.
Riyadh’s King Khaled International Airport showed one of the most dramatic improvements, jumping to third place with a strong focus on infrastructure and service transformation.
Meanwhile, Muscat International Airport earned its position as the third-best in the Middle East and fifth globally—highlighting Oman’s smooth and efficient approach to air travel.
Dubai Airport’s Winning Formula

So, what sets Dubai apart?
It comes down to how the airport treats time as a luxury. With globally recognised restaurants, boutique outlets, wellness centres, and streamlined immigration processes, DXB is more than a stopover. For many, it’s a reason to arrive early.
Passengers can expect everything from gourmet burger joints to Michelin-star-level dining, fashion labels ranging from high-street to haute couture, and even spa lounges that rival those in five-star hotels.
The mix of accessibility, global connectivity, and premium offerings has helped Dubai Airport turn ordinary transit into something memorable.
A Quiet Power Move from Abu Dhabi
While Dubai steals the spotlight for food and shopping, Abu Dhabi Airport’s silent progression into the top 20 signals long-term ambition. The capital’s airport has been steadily upgrading its offerings, enhancing lounges, and improving customer service to quietly earn international respect.
For the UAE, this dual recognition highlights a broader trend—the country’s airports are now leaders on the global stage.
The Middle East Isn’t Catching Up—It’s Setting the Pace
This year’s AirHelp Score confirms a shift. The region, once seen as a growing market in aviation, is now dictating what premium airport service looks like.
Whether it’s punctual take-offs, five-star amenities, or customer-first design, Middle Eastern airports are no longer just functional—they’re aspirational.
And with DXB at the top for food and shopping, it’s clear: travelling through Dubai is no longer just efficient—it’s enjoyable.
