We were this close to getting the reunion we’ve been waiting for, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan to be back together after Piku, but in a different vibe, the Hindi remake of The Intern. The excitement was real, and the fan edits were ready. But the script of reality had other plans.

Turns out, Deepika is stepping away from the spotlight for this one, but not from the project entirely. Instead of charming us onscreen as the desi Jules (Anne Hathaway’s character in the OG), she’s pulling the strings behind the camera as a producer.
Sources spill that Deepika wants to go bigger with storytelling, think meaningful, global projects that make noise beyond Bollywood. The Intern remake is just one of the five exciting projects she’s producing this year. The hunt is officially on for a new leading lady to step into those powerhouse heels.
The Story We Know, With a Big B Twist
If you’ve seen the original, you know it’s a heart-warmer about a 70-year-old widower who joins a fashion startup as an intern and ends up forming a beautiful bond with its boss. This time around, Amitabh Bachchan will play the lovable intern, which is already giving us warm chai on a rainy day energy.
This isn’t the only film Deepika has waved goodbye to recently, she also walked out of Spirit, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s next big thing. But don’t think for a second that she’s slowing down.
What’s next for deepika?
Coming up, Deepika will set screens on fire in Atlee’s actioner with Allu Arjun, hop aboard King alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan, and return to the Kalki 2898 AD universe. All this, while embracing her newest role – motherhood.
