Bright Bites Opens in Dubai: World’s First Supermarket Designed for Kids

Majid Al Futtaim launches Bright Bites at Mall of the Emirates, blending fun, nutrition, and learning for children aged 4–11.

Dubai has always been known for introducing world-first experiences, and now families have a new addition to explore. Bright Bites, developed by Majid Al Futtaim, has opened at Mall of the Emirates and is being recognised as the world’s first supermarket designed exclusively for children.

The concept goes beyond a traditional shopping trip. It encourages children aged between 4 and 11 to explore food choices through interactive play, helping them understand the basics of healthy eating while still enjoying the process.

How Bright Bites Works

At the centre of the experience is the “Pick Your Five” system, which guides children to select one item each from fruit and vegetables, main meals, dairy products, beverages, and mindful snacks. This structure ensures balance while still leaving room for independence.

Children use a dedicated Bright Bites card that doubles as both a play and shop card. It lets them unlock educational games, track progress on leaderboards, and even pay for their own choices at the end of the journey.

Beyond Shopping: The Bright Bites Academy

The concept extends outside the mini supermarket with the Bright Bites Academy. Here, children take part in workshops, cooking sessions, and learning modules designed to spark curiosity about food.

Schools across Dubai will also be able to collaborate with the programme, giving students access to curriculum-linked resources. With input from nutritionists and behavioural specialists, the supermarket aims to influence healthier long-term eating habits.

Families in Dubai Will Love It

Bright Bites gives children the freedom to make their own food choices in a safe, guided environment. For parents, it’s an opportunity to encourage independence while knowing the options are curated for balance and nutrition.

The supermarket also makes learning fun. Instead of being a routine task, grocery shopping becomes an engaging activity, helping children build confidence and awareness about food.

Supporting Dubai’s Community Goals

The UAE has placed strong emphasis on improving children’s health and nutrition. Initiatives such as Bright Bites complement national goals by addressing diet-related concerns and providing new tools for families and schools.

The concept, located at Mall of the Emirates, one of Dubai’s most accessible shopping destinations, attracts families across the city. Its focus on education, play, and wellness reflects Dubai’s broader ambition to combine innovation with community impact.

The Bigger Picture

Bright Bites is not only a retail experience but also a community hub that connects children, parents, and educators. By linking play with practical lessons, it creates an environment where food shopping becomes an adventure with lasting benefits.

As Dubai continues to lead with innovative concepts, Bright Bites is expected to inspire more initiatives that combine lifestyle, learning, and wellbeing for the next generation.

With Bright Bites now open, families in Dubai have access to a first-of-its-kind space where children can explore food in a fun and meaningful way. This experience will change how young people connect with nutrition through discovering new flavors, joining workshops, and participating in school programs.
