Bobby Deol is truly living his Villain Era, and we’re here for it! From the chocolate boy of the ’90s to delivering bone-chilling performances, the man has proved he’s got range. His intimidating portrayal of Abrar in Animal left audiences shook, and let’s not forget his menacing yet captivating role as Baba Nirala in Aashram. Unknown facts: He said yes to the tole without telling his family! Why did Bobby go rogue with this decision? His answer is as raw as it gets.
Bobby Deol opens up about his career shift
At the trailer launch of Aashram Season 3 Part 2, Bobby Deol finally addressed the elephant in the room – his family’s reaction to his controversial role as the manipulative godman, Baba Nirala. The actor revealed that he took the role because he wanted to challenge himself and break out of the stereotypical “hero” image.
Bobby confessed, “I didn’t want anyone interfering. At home, parents say, ‘Don’t do this, don’t do that,’ and you have to listen to them. But as an actor, my effort was always to take on different kinds of roles and characters. I was not getting any hero roles. That’s why when I accepted this role, I didn’t tell anyone. I was just waiting to see what the reaction would be when the show came out. And when I saw the response, it felt like I was dreaming. My mother was getting calls from her friends, saying, ‘Your son has done such a wonderful job. We truly enjoyed it.“
When the show finally aired, Bobby didn’t just win over audiences – he won over his biggest critics: his family! His brother Bobby received non-stop calls from his friends, raving about how incredible his performance was. Even Dharmendra, the OG He-Man and Bobby’s father of Bollywood, personally called him to express his pride.
Bobby shared, “Papa called me and said, ‘So many people are calling me. You have done such a great job, I am so happy for you. I’m so proud of you. People are praising your work.’ Bhaiya also said the same thing—so many of his friends called him, asking him to connect them with Bobby.”
What’s next for Bobby?
Bobby Deol not slowing down anytime soon. After slaying it as Abrar in Animal, he’s gearing up for a mix of thrillers, action, and comedy. Here’s what’s coming next.
