Short Films, Cultural Fusion, and Cinematic Brilliance in Dubai

Film enthusiasts and aspiring filmmakers are in for an exhilarating weekend as Dubai plays host to the ‘Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert’ festival. Spanning from January 12 to January 21, this eagerly awaited event promises a unique celebration of cinematic creativity, uniting talents from both regional and global landscapes.

Al Marmoom Film Festival: Unveiling the World of Short Films

In a nod to traditional Emirati arts, this year’s festival places a special emphasis on short films, utilizing captivating narratives as a driving force. Over 70 films, representing Emirati, GCC, Arab, and international filmmakers, will grace the screens. Notably, 56 of these will be part of the Al Marmoom Short-Film Competition.

Discerning Excellence Across Genres

A distinguished panel of experts from the UAE and the wider regional cinema sector will meticulously evaluate films across three distinct categories. Notable figures such as Emirati caricaturist Haidar Mohamad and animation director Wael Attili, co-founder of Kharabeesh, will preside over the animation category. Meanwhile, the documentary and live-action film categories boast a fusion of talents, including Lebanese actor and director Georges Khabbaz, Emirati director Nahla Al Fahad, and Egyptian director Tamer Mohsen.

Beyond the Silver Screen

The festival transcends the cinematic experience by offering a diverse program of over 30 workshops, more than 10 panel discussions, and insightful talks with industry professionals. This holistic approach seeks to bolster Emirati and UAE-resident filmmakers, providing them not only with a platform to showcase their works but also with invaluable insights from seasoned experts.
