Abu Dhabi is getting ready to unveil one of its boldest entertainment projects yet — the world’s first AI-powered fountain. Set along the waterfront at Al Maryah Island, the upcoming attraction promises more than the usual dancing water show. Think soaring jets of water, cinematic soundtracks, immersive visuals, and artificial intelligence working behind the scenes to make every performance feel alive.
In a city already known for doing things on a grand scale, this project feels like another step into the future. And for anyone who has spent an evening walking along Abu Dhabi’s waterfronts during the cooler months, it is easy to see why this could quickly become one of the capital’s busiest evening spots.
A waterfront show designed to feel cinematic
The new fountain is expected to sit at the heart of the Al Maryah Waterfront development, surrounded by restaurants, promenades, and open public spaces. But the real showstopper is what will happen on the water itself.
At the centre of the attraction will be a glowing, floating sphere measuring around 30 metres wide. Around it, more than 1,000 AI-powered water jets will move in sync with music, projection effects, and lighting displays. Unlike traditional fountain systems that follow fixed programming, this one is being designed to react and adapt through artificial intelligence technology, making each show feel more dynamic and immersive.
The scale is enormous. Water streams are expected to reach heights of up to 75 metres, creating a skyline-level spectacle visible from different parts of the island.
For residents used to seeing the Dubai Fountain pull crowds night after night, this feels like Abu Dhabi’s answer — but with a more futuristic edge.
The same creative minds behind iconic fountains
One reason the project is already generating so much excitement is the team involved behind the scenes. The fountain is being created by WET, the internationally known company behind the Dubai Fountain and the famous Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas.
That instantly sets expectations high.
Anyone who has stood outside Dubai Mall on a busy weekend knows the atmosphere those water shows create. Families gathering by the railings. Tourists filming every second. Children running closer each time the music builds. Abu Dhabi appears to be aiming for that same emotional connection, but with added technology and storytelling layered into the experience.
Adding to the cinematic feel is the music itself. Reports say the soundtrack is being composed by Ramin Djawadi, the award-winning composer known for Game of Thrones and several Hollywood productions. His involvement hints that the performances will feel less like short fountain routines and more like theatrical productions on water.

Al Maryah Island is changing fast
Over the last few years, Al Maryah Island has quietly transformed into one of Abu Dhabi’s most polished lifestyle destinations. What was once known mainly as a business and financial district now feels far more social, especially during evenings and weekends.
The waterfront already attracts residents heading out for dinner, walks by the water, or coffee with skyline views. The addition of an AI-powered attraction is expected to completely change the energy of the area after sunset.
Plans for the wider waterfront development include upgraded walkways, shaded seating areas, cooling zones, public gathering spaces, and new dining concepts overlooking the water. The goal appears to be creating a destination where visitors stay for hours rather than stopping briefly for a single attraction.
It also fits naturally into Abu Dhabi’s recent shift towards experience-led tourism. From immersive art spaces to large-scale cultural landmarks and waterfront entertainment, the capital has been steadily building attractions that encourage people to explore the city differently.
Abu Dhabi’s growing focus on AI and innovation
The fountain may be designed for entertainment, but it also reflects something much bigger happening across the UAE right now.
Artificial intelligence is becoming a major part of the country’s long-term plans, especially in Abu Dhabi. Over the past year, the emirate has announced multiple AI-focused projects spanning infrastructure, smart cities, technology investments, and digital innovation.
This fountain brings that technology into public life in a way people can actually experience. Instead of AI existing quietly in data centres or business systems, it becomes part of a live performance watched by thousands of visitors every night.
That is part of what makes this project stand out. It is not only about impressive engineering. It is about creating an emotional experience using technology, art, music, and architecture together in one space.

It could become Abu Dhabi’s next tourist hotspot
While an official opening date has not yet been confirmed, anticipation around the project is already building. And honestly, it is easy to understand why.
The UAE has never struggled to create headline-making attractions. But what keeps residents and tourists returning is the atmosphere around those places — the feeling of being there in the moment.
An AI-powered fountain on the waterfront taps directly into that. Evening walks with the skyline glowing in the background. Outdoor dining with live water performances nearby. Families gathering along the promenade during winter evenings. Visitors stopping to film the giant illuminated sphere rising above the water.
It has all the ingredients to become one of Abu Dhabi’s defining attractions over the next few years.
And in a country that constantly competes with itself to build the next world-first experience, this project feels very on brand for the UAE.
