Dubai International Airport issues travel alert as passenger numbers set to surge

DXB readies for over 3.6 million passengers between 13–25 August 2025 as summer holidays wrap up

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has issued a travel advisory ahead of what is expected to be one of the busiest periods of the year. The surge in traffic comes as families and students return to Dubai before the start of the new school term.

Between Wednesday, 13 August, and Monday, 25 August 2025, more than 3.6 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport. This translates to a daily average of around 280,000 travellers, with Friday, 15 August, projected to be the busiest day, exceeding 290,000 passengers.

The figures underline DXB’s continued growth. In just the first six months of 2025, the airport welcomed over 46 million guests, maintaining its position as the world’s busiest international travel hub.

Coordinated measures to keep journeys running smoothly

To ensure passengers move efficiently through the airport, Dubai Airports is working closely with airlines, immigration authorities, and commercial partners. Operational teams have been aligned to minimise queues, manage terminal flow, and provide timely updates to travellers.

Staff across the airport’s oneDXB network are also being deployed strategically to assist passengers and keep services running at full capacity during the rush.

How to make your journey through DXB easier

Passengers are being urged to plan to avoid delays during the peak travel period. DXB’s latest advice includes:

Choose the right time to arrive

  • Emirates passengers: Make use of early check-in and self-check-in facilities, including city check-in options.
  • flydubai passengers: Arrive at least four hours before departure.
  • Other airlines: Arrive no earlier than three hours before your flight.

Use Smart Gates where possible

Families with children over 12 can use Smart Gates for faster passport control, reducing waiting time.

Take the Dubai Metro

With stations at Terminals 1 and 3, the Metro offers a quicker alternative to road transport, especially during high-traffic hours.

Be ready for security screening

Place metal items like watches, belts, and coins in your hand luggage before reaching the scanner. Follow guidelines for liquids, aerosols, and gels to prevent delays.

Keep track of flight updates

Use the DXB Express Maps tool by scanning QR codes on flight information screens to access live updates for all terminals.

August peak marks a critical period for DXB

This mid-August rush coincides with the closing weeks of the summer break, a time when a large portion of Dubai’s residents return from overseas holidays. It also precedes the start of the new academic year, a period that typically sees high inbound volumes from expatriate families and international students.

For DXB, this surge is more than just a seasonal spike. It is a large-scale operational test ahead of the end-of-year holiday season, another peak period for passenger movement through the airport. The seamless handling of these numbers reinforces Dubai’s reputation for world-class travel infrastructure and efficiency.

A reminder for all passengers

The airport is urging all travellers to make the most of available facilities, from early check-in counters to the Smart Gates, to ensure smooth movement through the terminals. Simple steps, like checking baggage allowances in advance and preparing for security, can make a significant difference to travel time.

With passenger numbers on track to break records again in 2025, these measures are designed to keep the journey stress-free for all guests passing through DXB.
