Dubai is all set to welcome the world’s top cultural minds for the 2024 World Cities Culture Summit from October 30 to November 1, marking a first for both Dubai and the MENA region. This summit will bring together leaders, creators, and policymakers from over 40 global cities to exchange ideas on how culture can shape tomorrow’s urban life. Organized by the World Cities Culture Forum and supported by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the summit embodies Dubai’s goal to stand at the forefront of global cultural innovation.
Why Dubai? A Unique Meeting Point for Culture
Dubai, with its diversity and creativity, won the bid for the summit, guided by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s
vision. It has grown into a creative hub and model for sustainable urban development. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, highlighted that Dubai’s cultural journey
relies on collaboration and knowledge sharing to foster an environment where art, creativity, and knowledge drive progress.
What’s on the Agenda: “Tomorrow’s Culture”
The summit’s theme, “Tomorrow’s Culture: How Will the Next Generation Shape Our World?” invites an open conversation on how cities can create environments that nurture young talent, drive innovation, and support a vibrant cultural economy. The agenda will cover a range of topics, including:
- AI and Culture: How artificial intelligence can be integrated into cultural policymaking.
- Sustainability and Climate: Culture’s role in promoting sustainable cities and climate awareness.
- Healthcare and Creativity: Exploring culture as a tool to enhance urban health and wellness.
Sessions at Al Shindagha Museum and Museum of the Future blend Dubai’s heritage and modern ambitions.
Engaging the Public: A Free Session for the Local Creative Community
One of the summit’s standout events, “Tomorrow’s Talent: What Do Creatives Need from Cities?”, will be open to the public. This session invites residents, artists, and creatives to discuss how cities can better support their work and ambitions.
Dubai’s Growing Cultural Role
Since joining the World Cities Culture Forum in 2020, Dubai has worked to enhance its cultural landscape. Hosting this summit strengthens relationships with global cultural leaders, promotes local talent, and positions Dubai as a cultural leader.
Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, said the summit showcases Dubai’s commitment to building global networks and fostering knowledge exchange.
Bringing Together a World of Ideas
Dubai, as the first MENA city to host the World Cities Culture Summit, cements its status as a global cultural hub. Delegates and visitors will explore thriving art districts and landmarks like Alserkal Avenue and downtown near the Dubai Mall and Burj
Khalifa. The event will enhance Dubai’s cultural landscape, solidifying its role in cultural dialogue, creativity, and progress.
