Abhinav Kashyap, the man behind Dabangg’s blockbuster swagger, is back in the news – this time for throwing shade and spitting fire at Salman Khan. Currently, Kashyap is all over social media for his controversial digs at Salman’s films and even his looks. But scroll back a few years, and you’ll find him in a much more. Let’s say, a grateful tone. In this old clip, the director candidly admitted that Salman wasn’t just flexing muscles on-screen, he was also flexing his creative chops off it.
Remember “Hum Robin Hood Pandey hain” and “Itne ched kar dunga ke ginti ho jayegi confuse”? Turns out, Salman didn’t just deliver those iconic lines; he actually helped cook them up. Kashyap revealed in the old chat that Salman was very much part of the dialogue brainstorming, improvising like a pro. He shares, “I’ll give you a script of 80 pages. There’s nothing in it but around 4000 dialogues. So, if you specifically ask, ‘Who wrote this dialogue? Where did this come from?’ So, I’ll tell you where it came from. I’ve never denied that Salman didn’t contribute. A lot of people have contributed to the film – Dilip Shukla has, I have, and even Arbaaz has. My friend Sunil Nabora has also.”
When asked why Salman didn’t get an official “writer” tag like he did in Veer, Kashyap cheekily tossed the ball back: “Ask Salman.” According to him, “You should ask Salman. If his contribution was substantial enough, then he would have been given credit for contributing to the writing in the film. But that was fine.” He added, “Actors have their own improvisations. Actors also get something. It’s not like you ask an actor to do something and they do as is, they aren’t puppets.”
