Vicky Kaushal, the ultimate Bollywood heartthrob, is turning 36 today on May 16, and he has won us over! This dude has carved out a sweet spot in our hearts and the glitzy world of Bollywood. Can you believe he started off as a mere assistant director in Anurag Kashyap’s crime flick ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’? But once he unleashed his acting prowess in the movie ‘Masaan’, he straight-up rocked the industry. Drama? Check. Action? Check. Thriller? Check. Comedy? Check. Biopics? You bet – This guy has done it all, and he’s done it like a boss.

Let’s take a wild ride down memory lane to relish some of Vicky Kaushal’s most mind-blowing and offbeat performances of all time! 

1) Masaan (2015)

This actor bursted onto the scene in 2015 with a bang, starring in the film ‘Masaan’. Directed by the fabulous Neeraj Ghaywan, this flick had it all: drama and intensity. The movie also featured Richa Chadha and Shweta Tripathi Sharma. Vicky totally slayed his role as Deepak Kumar, a dude from Varanasi who had dreams bigger than the universe. Hailing from the Dom community, his family worked in cremation ghats, burning funeral pyres like nobody’s business. ‘Masaan’ was a game-changer for Vicky, propelling him to new heights of stardom. Critics and fans alike couldn’t get enough of his powerful performance. 

2) Zubaan (2015) 

Directed by Mozez Singh the movie ‘Zubaan’ stars Sarah Jane Dias and Vicky Kaushal, this film takes you on a captivating Indian musical drama. It revolves around the life of a boy named Dilsher, portrayed by Vicky, who battles a speech impediment and an overwhelming fear of music following the tragic loss of his singer father. It’s so intriguing to watch Vicky play the character as he confronts his fears head-on and discovers his true self. It’s a soul-stirring tale that will leave you inspired and in awe.

3) Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016)

For those of y’all didn’t know also pulled off the character of a corrupt cop in the movie ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’. Inspired by a true story, this film delves into the dark world of Raman, a notorious serial killer who wreaked havoc in Mumbai during the 1960s. Nawazuddin Siddiqui takes on the chilling role of Raman, while Vicky nails it as a cop. The movie is directed by Anurag Kashyap.

4) Manmarziyaan (2018)

‘Manmarziyaan’ directed by Anurag Kashyap, this movie had Vicky playing the role of Vicky Sandhu, AKA the one and only DJ Sands. Joined by Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal took the silver screen by storm. Playing DJ Sands was a completely new character he embraced. He confessed that this role set him free as an actor, allowing him to unleash his full potential. Vicky transformed into a character who was as spoilt. Who knew Vicky had this level of versatility? 

5) Raazi (2018)

Alia Bhatt’s performance in this movie was critically acclaimed but Vicky Kaushal was no less. He breathed life into the character of Iqbal Syed, a gallant Pakistani army officer who found his heart intertwined with that of Sehmat, the Indian spy masterfully portrayed by the talented Alia. With an awe-inspiring blend of restraint and raw emotions, Meghna Gulzar’s pen weaved a tapestry of depth and complexity into the character of Iqbal Syed, transforming him into an exquisite creation that resonated with audiences on a profound level.

6) Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)

In Vicky Kaushal’s career, one cannot overlook the masterpiece that is Aditya Dhar’s magnum opus, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’. This movie shall forever be etched in our collective memory as one of Vicky’s most exceptional performances. In the role of Major Vihaan Singh, Vicky infused every frame with a resolute spirit and unwavering nobility, drawing inspiration from a real-life hero in the Indian Army. Vicky Kaushal did a great job in portraying a historical figure fearlessly in Shoojit Sircar’s directorial, ‘Sardar Udham’. Unleashing the full force of his artistry, Vicky portrayed a man driven by an unwavering mission to avenge the lives lost in the infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre, orchestrated by the very hand of Michael O’Dwyer, the lieutenant governor of Punjab in British India. 8) Sam Bahadur

Meghna Gulzar handed Vicky a role that was nothing short of iconic, and he absolutely owned it. Playing the legendary Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in the biopic-drama “Sam Bahadur,” Vicky breathed life into the character, capturing the essence of India’s former Chief of Army Staff with finesse. From his pivotal role in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war to the liberation of Bangladesh, Vicky nailed every aspect of this unforgettable portrayal.

On the work front, Vicky Kaushal has many other projects in the pipeline. He will next be seen with Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk in ‘Bad Newz’. The film is slated to hit theatres on July 19, 2024. Vicky will also be seen in Chhava. But, the biggest of all is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Love and War’ opposite Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
