Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA emphasized the strategic design of this initiative to enhance connectivity across four major traffic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.
Transformative Impact
“This project aims to improve the connectivity of four major traffic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road,” said Al Tayer. “It will enhance the capacity of the streets to accommodate up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, ensuring a smoother flow of traffic and significantly reducing the travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road from 9.7 to 3.8 minutes.”
A Boon for Residents
The Umm Suqeim Street project is poised to benefit various residential and developmental areas, including Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, and Dubai Hills. This visionary initiative caters to an estimated population of about two million people, enhancing residents’ overall quality of life.
Guided by Visionaries
This strategic initiative aligns with the visionary directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasizing the commitment to bolster the city’s infrastructure in line with its sustained growth. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has closely overseen the project, ensuring it meets the urban and population needs while guaranteeing a seamless flow of traffic.

Building on Past Success
The RTA had previously completed the initial phase of the Umm Suqeim Street Project in 2013, which included the construction of two 3-lane bridges between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. In 2020, a central 500-meter bridge leading to the Dubai Hills Mall Project was opened, further enhancing traffic flow with its four lanes in each direction, capable of handling up to 16,000 vehicles per hour.
Dubai’s Commitment to Growth
This forward-looking Umm Suqeim Street project underscores Dubai’s commitment to sustainable urban development. It aligns with the city’s vision to provide efficient and modern infrastructure to its residents and businesses. As the city grows, such initiatives play a pivotal role in ensuring smooth transportation and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global hub.
