Millions of people across the globe are dying of hunger and poverty, and to tackle the poverty globally, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai started the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign to help the vulnerable communities in dozens of countries around the world, during the holy month of Ramadan. And just like in 2020, 2021, and 2022, the campaign has managed to cross its target before the end of Ramadan. Read on for all the deets.
Sheikh Mohammed took to his social media channels to announce on Tuesday that AED1.075bn is contributed by more than 180,000 people, businesses and institutions during the holy month.
The One Billion Meals Endowment campaign stresses the significance of effective partnerships in achieving the goals of charitable initiatives across the world. Sheikh Mohammed donated AED250m in real estate assets and cash to the 1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign. Speaking about crossing the mark, Sheikh Mohammed, in comments carried by state news agency Wam, said, “Ramadan is a special time in the UAE thanks to the acts of kindness it encourages, to the people of this nation and to the noble values instilled in us by the late Sheikh Zayed.”
“Endowments is a great tradition that we aim to continue, to ensure the sustainability of giving and generosity. The endowment will always be open to contributions as we encourage more people to be part of this food aid initiative. And we give our thanks to everyone who contributed to the largest ongoing charity in the UAE,” he added.

WAM also reported that the campaign received donations in the form of land, corporate shares and monetary contributions from businesses and individuals, as well as daily subscriptions to donate by thousands of community members.
In fact, in a recent auction organised by Emirates Auction, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, Etisalat and Du, the bidder paid AED55 million for the number 7 number plate. The auction sold other name plates and exclusive mobile numbers and raised nearly a whopping AED100 million, $27 million for UAE’s ‘1 Billion Meals Campaign.
Sold number plates include- H31, W78, N41, AA19, AA22, X36, Z37, AA80 and more. P7 topped the list and was sold for AED55 million, breaking the 2008 record set by Emirati businessman Saeed Khouri, who paid $14.2 million for Abu Dhabi’s number 1 plate at a charity auction in 2008. Apart from P7, Dubai number plate AA 19 was sold for AED4.9 million, and O71 for AED2.1 million.
Besides this, ten mobile numbers from Du and 11 phone numbers from Etisalat were also for auction. Etisalat numbers were sold for over AED3.3 million, while 971548888888 number topped the list and was sold for AED2.3 million. Du sold 10 special mobile numbers for AED10.

All proceeds from the auction will go to HH Sheikh Mohammed’s One Billion Meals Campaign, which aims to fight global hunger. The anonymous buyer’s generous contribution will go a long way in helping provide much-needed meals for people in need across the world.
