UAE Ramadan 2023: Food delivery orders to be paused for up to 30 minutes daily

The holy month of Ramdan is here and this year, deliver companies in Dubai are reminding residents to order their food early. Wondering why? Well this year, online food delivery platforms are putting deliveries on hold around this time to help fasting riders. So, ensure you order your food early, especially during Iftar time.

Accidents in the UAE increase especially during Ramadan. Road safety experts have urged drivers and pedestrians to drive more carefully every year as traffic accidents typically rise during Ramadan. Peak accident times during Ramadan are around pre-Iftar (between 2 and 5 pm) and morning rush hour (between 8 and 10 am), according to RoadSafety UAE’s Ramadan accident surveys. With several people rushing during Iftar, drivers and delivery drivers are advised to exercise caution especially during this period.

Careem pauses its grocery, food and other delivery services for 30 minutes every day

In order to give delivery drivers time to rest and break their fast, Careem has decided to stop all of its grocery, food, and other delivery services for 30 minutes daily during Iftar time throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan. Additionally, all Careem delivery riders in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan, and Egypt, will receive Iftar meals at least three times per week during Ramadan.

Furthermore, Careem has also introduced new donation features on the app to aid underserved areas. When using Careem’s “Ramadan” car option, customers in the UAE can now donate AED 3 with every ride they book to the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” initiative. In order to establish the largest Ramadan sustainable food aid endowment fund, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the campaign. The amount is automatically added to the cost of renting a car and is given right to the fund.

While Careem had paused delivery for 30 minutes daily, Talabat and Deliveroo are also doing their bit to ensure the safety of delivery riders during Ramdan.

Talabat offers Riders flexible work timings, restaurant discounts

Talabat offers its customers flexible work schedules, discounts at 20 restaurants, and invitations to Iftar gatherings. The service has tripled the amount of safety messages it sends to customers during Ramadan. This is done in an effort to raise customer awareness of traffic laws, especially during rush hours, and to remind customers to take immediately authorized breaks whenever necessary.

Additionally, Deliveroo users are encouraged to stop by one of the company’s “Roo Vans” between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. to pick up a free Iftar meal. The company will also hand out more than 12,000 snack packages to users across a number of sites, host iftar events, and award bonuses to top users.

Talabat and Deliveroo are also providing a limited number of riders with tickets or money to travel home for Eid. A campaign called Eidiya has also been started by Talabat to reward riders during Eid.
