UAE President Begins Working Visit to India as Strategic Ties Continue to Deepen

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen cooperation across trade, energy and global priorities.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, has begun a working visit to India starting January 19, marking another important moment in the fast-growing partnership between the two nations.

During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed will hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key areas such as trade, investment, energy, security and regional stability.

For residents in Dubai and across the UAE, this visit reflects a relationship that goes far beyond formal diplomacy. It touches daily life — from trade routes and energy security to the Indian diaspora that forms a vital part of the country’s social and economic fabric.

A Visit That Builds on Strong Momentum

This is Sheikh Mohamed’s third official visit to India since becoming President, and his fifth visit over the past decade, according to India’s foreign ministry. The frequency itself tells a story.

Over the last few years, UAE–India relations have moved at pace. High-level visits have become regular, signalling a shared commitment to long-term cooperation rather than one-off engagements.

The visit also builds on recent exchanges, including the September 2024 visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and the April 2025 visit of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Crown Prince of Dubai.

Each visit has added another layer to a partnership that is now described as both strategic and comprehensive.

Trade and Investment Remain at the Heart of Talks

Economic cooperation is expected to be a major focus during the meetings in India.

Since the UAE–India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) came into effect, trade between the two countries has seen consistent growth. Non-oil trade has expanded rapidly, opening doors for businesses in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, technology and food processing.

For Dubai in particular, India remains one of its most important trading partners. Jebel Ali Port, free zones across the emirate, and Dubai’s role as a regional business hub have all benefited from this close economic relationship.

The visit offers an opportunity to review progress under CEPA and explore new investment avenues, especially in emerging sectors such as digital infrastructure, clean technology and advanced manufacturing.

Energy Cooperation Is Evolving

Energy has long been a cornerstone of UAE–India ties. The UAE is a reliable supplier of crude oil and gas to India, helping meet the energy needs of one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

But the relationship is shifting with the times.

Both countries are increasingly aligned on renewable energy, sustainability and future fuels. Areas such as solar power, green hydrogen and energy storage are gaining prominence, reflecting shared climate goals and long-term economic planning.

For UAE residents, this cooperation supports broader national ambitions around sustainability, innovation and economic diversification — themes that are now firmly part of everyday conversation in Dubai.

Regional Stability and Global Issues on the Table

Beyond economics, the discussions are expected to cover regional and global developments.

India and the UAE often share similar perspectives on the importance of dialogue, stability and cooperation in a changing geopolitical environment. As two influential players in their respective regions, both countries continue to work closely on issues that affect trade routes, energy security and regional peace.

This alignment has helped strengthen trust at the leadership level, making conversations more direct, practical and forward-looking.

People-to-People Ties That Matter

While diplomacy happens behind closed doors, the UAE–India relationship is very visible on the streets of Dubai.

The Indian community is one of the largest expatriate groups in the UAE, contributing across sectors — from finance and technology to healthcare, construction, retail and the creative industries. Indian food, cinema, festivals and cultural events are part of everyday life in the emirate.

This visit also reflects the importance both governments place on people-to-people connections, cultural exchange and mobility. Easier travel, stronger business ties and mutual respect continue to shape the relationship at a human level.

These cultural and social links are just as important as trade figures when it comes to long-term partnership.

Importance of this visit

For the UAE, the visit reinforces its position as a global connector — bridging Asia, the Middle East and beyond.
For India, it strengthens ties with a trusted partner in the Gulf.

Residents of Dubai – the impact is practical for them. Stronger UAE–India relations support economic stability, job creation, business growth and cultural exchange. They influence everything from investment confidence to travel, education and lifestyle choices.

In many ways, this visit reflects how diplomacy today is closely tied to everyday life.

The Road Ahead

As Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Prime Minister Narendra Modi meet, the message is clear: the UAE and India are not just partners of convenience, but long-term strategic allies.

With trade growing, energy cooperation evolving and cultural ties deepening, this visit is expected to set the tone for the next phase of UAE–India relations.

And for Dubai — a city built on global connections — that can only be good news.
