The UAE has introduced a new Dh100 polymer banknote, which officially enters circulation on March 24, 2025. The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) announced that the new note will be used alongside the existing Dh100 notes. Banks and exchange houses across the country have been instructed to update their machines to recognize and process the new currency without any issues.
Design Features Reflecting UAE’s Heritage and Growth

The new Dh100 note showcases elements of the UAE’s cultural and economic growth. Its front side features the Umm Al Quwain National Fort, a historic landmark symbolizing the nation’s rich past. The reverse side highlights the Port of Fujairah, one of the country’s key maritime trade centers. Additionally, the note includes an illustration of Etihad Rail, a vital transport network that connects all seven emirates and extends to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The note retains the traditional red color scheme, ensuring familiarity while introducing a refreshed design using advanced printing techniques. The UAE Nation Brand is also integrated, emphasizing the country’s vision of global connectivity and economic expansion.
Advanced Security Features for Enhanced Protection
To prevent counterfeiting and ensure consumer confidence, the new Dh100 banknote incorporates state-of-the-art security features:
- SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS: A color-shifting ink technology that enhances the note’s authenticity.
- KINEGRAM COLORS: A multi-colored security chip that adds an extra layer of protection.
These features make the banknote highly secure, reducing the risk of fraud and ensuring a safer banking experience.
Sustainability and Durability with Polymer Material
Unlike traditional paper banknotes, the new polymer-based Dh100 note lasts two to three times longer, making it a sustainable choice. The CBUAE has prioritized environmental responsibility, ensuring that the new currency contributes to the UAE’s Net Zero sustainability goals.
Additionally, the banknote features Braille symbols to assist visually impaired individuals in identifying the note’s value with ease, making it more inclusive.
A Step Towards a Stronger Economy
The Dh100 banknote is part of the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, which aims to highlight the UAE’s development and strengthen its position as a global financial hub. Previous releases, including the Dh500 and Dh1,000 polymer notes, have already won international recognition for their innovation in security and design.
Governor’s Statement on the New Release
Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, emphasized that the new Dh100 banknote aligns with the UAE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. He stated, “The launch of this banknote reflects our vision for a progressive financial sector while preserving our cultural heritage. We are pleased to introduce this special edition during the Eid Al Fitr celebrations, reinforcing our dedication to economic growth and financial security.”
What This Means for Residents and Businesses
With the new note in circulation, residents and businesses should expect a seamless transition. The existing Dh100 notes remain valid, and banks will continue to accept both versions. Retailers, banks, and exchange centers have prepared to accommodate the new note, ensuring a smooth rollout.
The UAE’s new Dh100 polymer banknote represents a significant advancement in currency security, durability, and sustainability. As the country continues to lead in financial innovation, this latest release reinforces its position as a modern economic powerhouse.
