UAE Intercepts 3 Ballistic Missiles and 121 Drones Amid Ongoing Regional Tensions

The UAE Ministry of Defence confirms multiple aerial threats were intercepted, with defence systems preventing major damage across the country.

Residents across parts of the UAE heard loud booms in the sky earlier this week — a sound that briefly caught many off guard. But authorities quickly confirmed the reason behind it.

The UAE’s air defence systems successfully intercepted three ballistic missiles and more than 120 drones, according to the Ministry of Defence. The aerial threats were detected and neutralised before they could cause significant damage.

Officials said 129 drones were tracked, with 121 intercepted mid-air, while eight drones landed within the country’s territory.

The update comes amid rising regional tensions, with defence forces remaining on high alert to protect the country’s airspace and maintain stability.

What Happened During the Interception Operation

The Ministry of Defence shared that multiple layers of the UAE’s defence systems were activated as soon as incoming threats were detected.

In total:

  • 3 ballistic missiles were intercepted
  • 129 drones were detected
  • 121 drones were destroyed in the air
  • 8 drones fell within the UAE

Military aircraft and ground-based defence systems worked together to neutralise the threats. Fighter jets were also deployed to engage drones and cruise missiles.

Residents in some areas reported hearing loud sounds in the sky. Authorities clarified that these sounds were caused by air defence interceptions and fighter aircraft operations, which are part of the country’s protective response.

Such operations often happen at high altitude, which is why most residents only hear the sound without seeing anything clearly.

The Bigger Picture: Hundreds of Threats Detected

While the latest update focuses on the March 4 interceptions, officials revealed that this was part of a larger wave of aerial threats detected in recent days.

Since the beginning of the attacks, the Ministry of Defence reported:

  • 189 ballistic missiles detected heading toward the UAE
  • 175 missiles destroyed by defence systems
  • 13 missiles fell into the sea
  • 1 missile landed within the country

Drone activity has also been significant.

Authorities detected 941 drones, intercepting 876 of them, while 65 drones fell inside the UAE.

Additionally, eight cruise missiles were detected and destroyed during the defence operations.

These figures highlight the scale of aerial threats the country has been monitoring and intercepting.

Casualties and Minor Damage Reported

Despite the majority of threats being intercepted successfully, authorities confirmed that the attacks resulted in some collateral damage.

Officials reported:

  • 3 deaths involving nationals from Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh
  • 78 minor injuries among residents of various nationalities

Those injured include people from communities across the UAE, including Emirati, Egyptian, Ethiopian, Filipino, Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and others.

Emergency services responded quickly to affected locations, providing medical care and securing impacted areas.

Authorities also confirmed that a number of civilian sites experienced minor to moderate damage, though no major infrastructure damage has been reported.

UAE Strongly Condemns the Attacks

The UAE government strongly condemned the aerial attacks, describing them as a clear violation of national sovereignty and international law.

Officials emphasised that the country retains the right to respond to the escalation and will take all necessary steps to protect:

  • The country’s territory
  • Citizens and residents
  • National assets and infrastructure
  • The overall security and stability of the UAE

The Ministry of Defence also confirmed that defence forces remain fully prepared to respond to any future threats.

Points to remember

Authorities have reassured residents that UAE defence systems remain highly capable and active.

If residents hear loud sounds in the sky, officials advise:

  • Staying calm
  • Avoiding the spread of rumours
  • Following updates only from official sources

Most interceptions happen far above populated areas, which is why many threats are neutralised before reaching the ground.

Officials also reminded the public that the safety of citizens, residents and visitors remains the country’s top priority.

The latest defence update highlights how the UAE continues to actively intercept missiles and drones, preventing major damage and protecting communities across the country.

While a few incidents resulted in casualties and minor damage, authorities say defence forces remain vigilant and ready to respond to any threats to the nation’s security.

For residents, the key message is simple: stay informed through official channels and avoid sharing unverified information online.
