The UAE has successfully eliminated 409 mosquito breeding sites in a major effort to control dengue fever. This comes after heavy rains created stagnant water, perfect for mosquitoes to breed.
Advanced Technology in Action to combat dengue
Using the latest GPS technology, health authorities mapped and removed mosquito breeding spots across the country. Nine specialized teams from the Emirates Health Services were deployed, especially in the northern regions, to support the campaign.
Insect Lab and Surveys
An insect laboratory was set up to test the effectiveness of different pesticides. More than 1,200 mosquito surveys were conducted, and 309 DNA samples were analyzed with the help of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority.

Public Awareness Campaigns
To educate the public, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) launched awareness campaigns in both Arabic and English. These campaigns used visual tools to teach people how to protect themselves, such as using mosquito repellents, wearing long sleeves, and installing screens and nets.
Community Involvement
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) urged residents to report any mosquito sightings or breeding sites. Othaibah Saeed Al Qaydi, director of Municipal Affairs, explained that they are using GIS mapping, sensors, and big data to stop mosquito growth.
Improved Healthcare Response
Healthcare workers have received additional training to better diagnose and track dengue fever cases. Immediate electronic case reporting and thorough investigations are part of the strategy to prevent the spread of the virus.
Rapid Response Teams
Rapid response teams assess and address mosquito threats around patients’ homes and workplaces. Diagnostic services and lab tests are available within 24-48 hours to ensure quick and effective treatment. All 134 Emirates Health Services facilities are prepared to treat dengue fever patients, following global best practices.
