UAE Announces New Traffic Fines Upto AED2,000

Driving in the UAE is safe, better and less stress-free, all thanks to the rules and fines that are in place. The authorities ensure that both drivers and people walking on the street are safe by issuing new orders, developments and safety measures. And now, to take safety to the next level and improve the standards further, The Ministry of Interior has announced a new set of fines in the UAE. New traffic fines of up to AED2,000 have been announced, and here’s everything you must know.

The aim behind announcing a new set of traffic fines is to boost safety during emergencies, unfavourable weather conditions and more. During rains and adverse weather conditions, drivers will be subjected to fines if they gather and enter flooded valleys, flooded areas and dams during rains, blocking the authorities from regulating traffic, ambulances and vehicles during crises and rains.

In terms of fines, gathering near valleys will attract a fine of AED1,000 and six black points, entering flooded valleys will attract AED2,000 fine plus 23 black points and a 60-day vehicle confiscation and obstructing authorities will draw an AED1,000 fine, four black points, and the vehicle will be impounded for 60-days.

In fact, from May 1st, new speed limits were also introduced for UAE drivers. Motorists are required to maintain a speed of 120 KM/per hour on the first two lanes from the left side, and the maximum speed limit is set at 140 KM/per hour. When it comes to heavy vehicles, they are required to comply with the rules and keep the speed to a maximum speed limit of 140 kph on the third and last lanes. They don’t need to follow the minimum speed limit but should adhere to a maximum speed limit.

Motorists Not Following The Minimum Speed Limit Will Attract A Fine Of AED400

Individuals caught driving below the minimum speed limit will attract a fine of AED400. The Abu Dhabi Police will also implement this new rule in both directions of the road to improve overall traffic safety in the region. The initiative to introduce the minimum speed limit by the UAE is to reduce the number of accidents caused by slow-moving vehicles.
