Sustainable Home Garden Competition Opens in Dubai with Dh 300,000 Prize

Dubai homeowners invited to turn their gardens into eco-friendly showpieces and win big.

Dubai homeowners now have the chance to reshape their gardens into award-winning green spaces. The Dubai Municipality (DM) has launched its third edition contest under the theme “The Most Beautiful Sustainable Home Garden in Dubai.” The competition offers a total prize pool of Dh 300,000 and is open to residents ready to combine style and sustainability in their private gardens.

The contest at a glance

The competition is open to all homes in residential neighbourhoods of Dubai that feature garden spaces. Participants are asked to submit photographs and complete a short application form. The deadline is 21 December 2025. Gardens will be inspected in January and February 2026, and winners will be announced in March 2026.
This initiative links to the broader vision of making Dubai a leading sustainable city, in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

The judges will look for

A specialised committee will evaluate entries using ten clear criteria:

  • Efficient water management and irrigation systems
  • Use of native or climate-adaptive plants and biodiversity
  • Soil health and use of organic fertilisers
  • Proper waste management and recycling practices
  • Energy efficiency and use of renewable technologies
  • Positive contribution to micro-climate and shade/cooling effects
  • Cleanliness, ease of maintenance, and accessibility
  • Safe layout and optimal use of available space
  • Innovative design and technology integration

In short, the gardens should not only look good—they must perform well for the environment and be practical for everyday use.

While a stunning garden might be a source of pride for a family, this competition serves a larger purpose. Encouraging sustainable gardens supports several goals: increasing green cover, improving water and energy efficiency, raising neighbourhood liveability, and aligning with Dubai’s long-term urban planning strategy.
With more homes participating, the ripple effect on community wellbeing and the environment is substantial.

How to make your entry stand out

If you’re thinking of participating, here are some tips:

  • Opt for native or drought-tolerant plant species—they adapt better and use less water.
  • Install a smart drip-irrigation system or timed sprinklers to conserve resources.
  • Consider solar-powered garden lighting or sensors to show technology use.
  • Use compost or organic fertiliser to boost soil health and sustainability.
  • Think creatively about layout: vertical planting, raised beds, hanging gardens can maximise space.
  • Make sure the garden is safe and accessible—no obstacles, clear paths.
  • Take high-quality photographs for your submission showing key features.
  • Document your sustainability efforts—water savings, energy use, plant choice—to strengthen your case.

This competition offers a wonderful opportunity for homeowners in Dubai to blend creativity, sustainability and community spirit. Whether you already have a garden you’re proud of or plan to redesign one, now is the time to act.
Even if you don’t win one of the top prizes, you’ll end up with a greener, smarter outdoor space.
