As summer temperatures climb across the UAE, outdoor workers such as delivery riders and drivers face serious health risks. In a community-led response, Pakistan Medical Centre (PMC) in Dubai has launched a free summer health package designed to safeguard those working long hours under the scorching sun.
Running until the end of September, this seasonal initiative provides critical hydration support, medical check-ups, and welfare assistance—entirely free of charge.
Supporting the Backbone of the City
The campaign is especially tailored for blue-collar workers who face intense heat while keeping the city moving. With long hours spent navigating roads in hot gear, delivery riders are among the most at risk for dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
“This initiative is specially designed for those working in outdoor roles,” shared Dr Muhammed Nasim Sabir, Medical Director at PMC. “We aim to ensure they stay hydrated, healthy, and safe throughout the summer.”
What the Summer Health Package Includes
PMC’s initiative isn’t just a basic check-up. It offers a comprehensive health support package for vulnerable workers, including:
- Dehydration checks and clinical assessments
- Consultations with physicians for heat-related symptoms
- Oral and intravenous hydration therapy, where necessary
- Heat stroke assessments and prevention guidance
- Essential blood tests, depending on individual health status
- Welfare support through PAD’s broader assistance programme
All services are offered on a walk-in basis, ensuring easy access without the need for prior booking.
Open to All Nationalities
Despite being operated under the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), PMC’s healthcare facility is open to people of all nationalities. Its objective is rooted in community care, inclusivity, and social responsibility.
“This is the segment of society that needs the most support,” said Mariam Mumtaz, spokesperson at PAD. “Our complex is built to serve the wider community, and initiatives like this are part of our ongoing mission to give back.”
Parallel Measures from Authorities
In addition to community-led healthcare efforts, the UAE government has activated its annual midday work ban, which restricts outdoor labour between 12:30pm and 3:00pm from 15 June to 15 September. The regulation helps reduce heat exposure and reinforces workplace safety, especially for those in the delivery, construction, and logistics sectors.
This alignment between civil society and government policy reflects a broader push to enhance occupational health standards across the country.
Beyond Healthcare: A Holistic Support System
The Pakistan Medical Centre is more than a medical facility. It actively contributes to a larger ecosystem that enhances the well-being of overseas workers and their families. Other facilities within the centre include:
- A health and fitness zone
- A business incubator for small-scale ventures
- A platform supporting women’s entrepreneurship
- Community-focused amenities such as a café and art space
These components reflect PMC’s broader commitment to holistic community development, making it one of the most comprehensive welfare centres of its kind in the region.
Driving Dignity Through Access
At its core, the summer health campaign is about more than medicine. It recognises the dignity and contributions of workers who endure difficult conditions to serve the city.
PMC actively provides free care, ensuring that every worker has access to basic health and wellness. In a climate where heat-related health risks are real and growing, this initiative serves as a timely and humane intervention.
