Spartan City Race Heads Indoors for the First Time in the UAE

First-ever indoor Spartan race in the Middle East promises a fast-paced 3km obstacle challenge for adults and kids

Fitness fans across the UAE have something new to train for this September. Spartan Middle East is introducing its first indoor Spartan City race, taking place on Saturday, 20 September 2025, at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Spartan’s urban edition swaps mud for concrete, packing its 3km course with signature obstacles in and around the arena for a fast, thrilling, crowd-friendly race.

A More Accessible Format for All Ages

The Spartan City race format is designed to be more accessible than standard Spartan races. At just 3km, it’s ideal for testing strength and stamina without the grind of longer, tougher races.

For adults aged 14 and above, the race offers an open category for general fitness enthusiasts and a competitive heat for elite racers. Expect the usual Spartan classics like rope climbs, weighted carries, wall jumps, and monkey bars—all condensed into a tight, high-energy route.

Spartan Kids will also have their moment to shine. Young racers between ages 4 to 14 can choose from three distance-based categories, tailored to their abilities:

  • 1km course for ages 4–6
  • 1.5km course for ages 7–9
  • Full 3km course for ages 10–14

Each child will receive a finisher medal, event t-shirt, and race-day swag—encouraging confidence and resilience in a fun, safe environment.

Hosting the event indoors at Etihad Arena brings several advantages, especially during the hotter months. As one of the UAE’s most advanced venues, it offers air-conditioned comfort, spacious race layouts, and top-tier facilities, ensuring a smooth experience for both participants and spectators.

Located on Yas Island, the arena is easy to access and already home to global entertainment and sporting events, making it an ideal backdrop for the Spartan City race’s high-intensity format.

What to expect:

The event promises more than just obstacles—it’s a full-day fitness festival. With music zones, emcees, and cheering crowds, the energy will be electric from start to finish.

Participants can expect:

  • Timed heats for various age and skill levels
  • Branded Spartan gear and finisher medals
  • Food trucks and hydration zones
  • A dedicated spectator area to catch all the action
  • Recovery and chill-out zones for racers post-run

Tickets and Registration Details

Race registration is currently open and filling fast. Adult entry begins at AED 200, while kids’ tickets start from AED 110. With limited heats and high demand expected—especially for family slots—participants are encouraged to sign up early.

This race is particularly suited for Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s growing fitness community, as well as corporate wellness groups, school teams, and weekend warriors looking for their next challenge.

More Than a Race—It’s a Movement

The Spartan City race format has seen strong turnouts globally, and this regional debut is expected to draw hundreds of athletes and families from across the UAE. It’s not just about competing—it’s about resilience, teamwork, and showing up for yourself.

And by bringing the event indoors, Spartan Middle East is making obstacle racing more inclusive, more adaptable, and more community-driven than ever before.
