However, Sonakshi has set the record straight.

In a candid chat with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi opened up about how religion was never a factor in her relationship with Zaheer. “Zaheer and I never even looked at religion. Here are two people in love with each other who want to get married,” she declared.
She further explained how neither of them imposed their beliefs on the other. She said,“He is not enforcing his religion on me, and I am not enforcing mine on him. We never sit and talk about religion. We appreciate and understand each other’s cultures. They follow certain traditions at their house, and I follow mine at my house. He sits with me during my Diwali puja, and I sit with them during their Niyaz—that’s all that matters. I respect them and their culture, and they respect me and my culture.”
Not once was she asked to convert. “There was never a question like, ‘Are you going to convert?’” Sonakshi revealed, shutting down all those unnecessary assumptions. Love wins.
A Love Story That Defied Norms & Won Hearts
After seven years of dating, Sonakshi and Zaheer finally got married on June 23, 2024, in a simple civil ceremony under the Special Marriage Act. This law allowed them to stay true to their faiths while embracing a lifetime of togetherness. Now that’s what we call a modern love story!
The couple tied the knot at Sonakshi’s Bandra, Mumbai residence, making it an intimate affair with only family and close friends in attendance. But, of course, Bollywood ka tadka came in later with a glamorous wedding reception at Mumbai’s Bastian.
From their hilarious couple pranks to their effortless chemistry, Sonakshi & Zaheer are literally the couple everyone wants to third-wheel. And through all the chatter about their marriage, they’ve proven that love sees no religion – only hearts that beat as one.
