Dubai Opens 605-Metre Bridge to Ease Congestion
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a new two-lane bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road, a significant milestone in the ongoing Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This newly opened bridge spans 605 meters and is designed to handle up to 3,200 vehicles per hour, addressing traffic congestion and streamlining connectivity between major intersections in the city.
Part of the Ambitious Al Shindagha Corridor Project
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is one of the largest infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the RTA, covering 13 kilometers across Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. The project aims to improve traffic capacity and safety, benefiting over a million residents and significantly reducing travel time.
Phase 4 of this project includes constructing four bridges with a total length of 3.1 kilometers and a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes.
Details of the New Bridge
The newly operational bridge connects the intersection of Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road. Two lanes ensure smoother traffic flow and enhance road capacity in this critical area.
Other Bridges Underway

Phase 4 has already seen the completion of a 1,335-meter bridge in December 2024, which accommodates 4,800 vehicles per hour. Two more bridges are scheduled for completion in mid-2025:
- First Bridge: A three-lane structure spanning 1,210 meters, enabling traffic from Al Mina Street to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour.
- Second Bridge: Another three-lane bridge, 780 meters long, designed to handle 4,800 vehicles per hour, will connect Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road.
By late 2025, a 985m two-lane bridge will link Jumeirah, Al Mina, and Falcon Intersection.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Upgrades
The project includes 4.8 km of road development and improved intersections on Jumeirah, Al Mina, and Sheikh Sabah streets. Additional features include:
- Two pedestrian bridges on Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street
- Improved traffic systems and street lighting
- Enhanced rainwater drainage and irrigation networks
Transforming Traffic in Dubai
The project will cut travel times from 104 to 16 minutes by 2030, boosting commuter efficiency. Upgrades will save AED 45 billion in travel time costs over two decades and enhance road safety.
A Commitment to Dubai’s Growth
The RTA’s efforts in developing sustainable and efficient transport infrastructure highlight Dubai’s focus on urban growth and improved living standards. Al Shindagha Corridor Project will boost commutes and support the city’s global vision.
