Bollywood has had its fair share of shocking scandals, but nothing quite shook the industry like Sanjay Dutt’s brush with the law. Sanjay Dutt found himself entangled in a controversy that led to his arrest under the TADA Act for alleged possession of illegal arms. His jail stint made national headlines, and for years, his life was nothing less than a Bollywood thriller. But did you know veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha played a major role in helping him during this tough time? Here’s him revealing the details!
Shatrughan Sinha opens up about The Tough times sanjay Dutt Went Through
At a recent event, Shatrughan Sinha, known for his legendary one-liners and unfiltered opinions, took a trip down memory lane. While attending the launch of producer Rajan Lall’s biography, he revealed how he, along with Lall and the late Balasaheb Thackeray, helped Sanjay navigate through his darkest days.
Sinha reminisced about his bond with Sanjay’s father, the late Sunil Dutt, calling him his elder brother. “Sunil Dutt was like my elder brother. Him, me, Rajan Lall and Shashi Ranjan used to sit together every evening, amid the Mumbai riots. We crossed the risky and dangerous streets. During that time, a major problem landed on Dutt saheb’s head. Humaara aur sabka laadla Sanjay Dutt jail mai tha (Our beloved Sanjay Dutt was in jail then),” he shared.
The Mission to Free Sanjay Dutt!
Shatrughan described how he and his allies were determined to help Sanjay. “We were tensed and worried for him, genuinely from the heart. We were concerned about how to get Sunil Dutt’s son released from jail. How could we help them?,” he shared.
And then came their saviour – Balasaheb Thackeray. The Shiv Sena supremo, known for his influence and power, stepped in. “We were lucky that Maharashtra’s lion, father figure, or Godfather Balasaheb Thackeray was with us. We introduced them to him, and Balasaheb Thackeray ji played a major role in Sanjay Dutt’s case. Be it his return from jail or the facilities provided to him there,” Sinha revealed.
Now, this is where things get even more filmy. According to Sinha, the day Sanjay walked out of jail, he went straight to seek blessings at Siddhivinayak Temple before heading to Sinha’s home. He added, “Aaj agar Sanjay Dutt yahan hote toh bahut acha hota (It would be nice if Sanjay was here today). The day he came out of jail, he came straight to our house after taking blessings at the Siddhivinayak temple. We then went to Rajan Lall’s home, congratulated him, and talked for hours.”
But here’s the twist! After all that bonding, Sanjay seemingly vanished from their lives. He said,“The story had its twists and turns after that. We have since tried to find Sanjay a lot of times, especially Rajan Lall. He tried in front of us and through us, but Dutt saheb ka chashmo chirag jo hume nahi mila hai, uske upar ek title lag chuka hai ‘dhundhte reh jaaoge’ (We can’t find Dutt saab’s son anymore, he can be given the title of ‘find him if you can’).”
Concluding, Sinha reassured, “But this doesn’t mean that he isn’t lovely. He might have his own reasons, problems, or just be busy.” (sic)
