While Sanjay Dutt might be one of Bollywood’s biggest icons — from the Khalnayak swagger to Munna Bhai’s charm — the man has lived a life full of highs, lows, and spine-chilling stories. Fame, wrong company, jail time, he’s seen it all. Baba doesn’t shy away from spilling the darkest chapters of his life. Recently, when he dropped by The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show with his buddy Suniel Shetty, he shared one such “hold-your-breath” moment from jail.
Sanjay Dutt Recounts Jail Incident: Double Murderer Held Razor to His Neck
Sanjay’s beard was growing wild, and the jail authorities decided it was time for grooming. But instead of a barber, they handed him over to another inmate named Mishra. Here’s the kicker — Mishra wasn’t your everyday jailmate; he was serving time for a double murder! Baba recalled how Mishra’s razor slowly moved toward his neck when he casually asked him about his crime.
Sanjay Dutt shared, “By that time, his razor had reached my neck. I asked him what crime he was in for, and he replied, ‘double murder.’ I immediately held his hand to stop him. So, a double murder convict had a razor in his hand—that’s just an ordinary day in jail.”
Funny enough, this scene found its way into Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju biopic, but with a hilarious spin. In the movie, Sanju manages to escape the situation, leaving everyone in stitches.
For all the chills and thrills, Sanjay confessed that his only regret is losing his parents too soon. His mother, legendary actress Nargis, passed away in 1981, just days before his debut in Rocky. His father, the beloved Sunil Dutt, left him in 2005 after a heart attack. Sanju admitted that not having them around still leaves a gaping hole in his heart.
The Conviction That Changed Everything
Sanjay’s tryst with the law began after the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Though he maintained he kept firearms only for self-defence during the riots, the court convicted him under the Arms Act. He ended up serving time in Yerwada Jail, where he wasn’t just a prisoner but also the host of a radio show for inmates. His good conduct even earned him a 144-day remission. Still, the years behind bars reshaped his life in more ways than one.
Fast forward to today, and Sanju Baba is back on the big screen, bringing his powerhouse presence to films. He was last seen in Baaghi 4 alongside Tiger Shroff, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, and Sonam Bajwa. Honestly, nobody plays larger-than-life better than Sanjay Dutt.
From being groomed by a double-murder convict with a razor to reliving those jail days with a laugh, Sanjay Dutt’s story proves one thing: Baba has lived a life straight out of a Bollywood thriller. Only difference? This one’s real.
