RTA Begins Building a New Tunnel to Ease Dubai Traffic

1.6 kilometers long tunnel

In an effort to ease the notorious traffic in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started working on a new project. They’ve given the green light to construct a tunnel along Al Khaleej Street, aiming to make driving smoother in the city.

A Solution to Traffic Woes

Dubbed as the Al Khaleej Street tunnel, this underground passage will stretch for 1.6 kilometers and offer six lanes for vehicles. The goal? To cut down on traffic jams and make the journey from Deira to Al Khaleej and Cairo Streets much easier. With three lanes going in each direction, the tunnel can handle a whopping 12,000 vehicles per hour, promising a hassle-free commute for many.

Improving Traffic Management

As part of the project, the RTA plans to upgrade the Cairo and Al Wuheida Streets intersection. Instead of a roundabout, they’ll install traffic signals to better manage the flow of cars. By doing this, they hope to keep the traffic moving smoothly. Plus, they’ll also link Cairo Street with the bridge ramp from Dubai Islands to the new tunnel, making it seamless for everyone to get around.

More Than Just a Tunnel

But the Al Khaleej Street tunnel is just one piece of the puzzle. The RTA has its hands full with several other projects aimed at making Dubai’s roads better for everyone. For instance, they’re working on improving Sheikh Rashid Street, building three bridges over a stretch of 4.8 kilometers. These bridges will be able to handle a whopping 19,400 vehicles per hour, making a big difference in traffic flow.

RTA: Looking to the Future

Dubai’s traffic is a challenge, but the RTA is committed to finding solutions. They’re not only building tunnels and bridges but also constantly looking for ways to improve the city’s transportation network. With these efforts, they hope to keep Dubai moving smoothly and efficiently, ensuring it remains a top destination for residents and visitors alike.

The start of the Al Khaleej Street tunnel project is a significant step towards a better Dubai. As construction gets underway, drivers can look forward to a smoother journey through the city’s bustling streets.
