RTA Confirms 60% Completion of Oud Maitha and Al Asayel Road Project

Major road upgrade under Sheikh Rashid Corridor to reshape traffic movement in central Dubai by 2030

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that 60% of the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street project is now complete. The development falls under the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project, one of Dubai’s most important long-term infrastructure initiatives.

The project focuses on improving traffic flow across central Dubai, where daily movement remains heavy due to hospitals, residential communities, offices, and key business districts nearby. Once fully completed in 2030, the upgrade is expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve road safety.

For residents who regularly use Oud Maitha Road or Al Asayel Street, this update brings reassurance that long-term improvements are steadily taking shape.

daily Commuters’ ease

Oud Maitha Road is a familiar route for many Dubai residents. It serves areas close to Dubai Healthcare City, Al Jaddaf, and parts of Bur Dubai. Al Asayel Street, on the other hand, connects traffic towards Business Bay and other commercial zones.

These roads handle high volumes of vehicles every day. Morning and evening peak hours often see slow movement, especially near intersections and hospital zones. With Dubai continuing to grow, the pressure on these corridors has only increased.

This is where the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street project plays a critical role. The upgrade is designed to support smoother movement, reduce waiting time at junctions, and make everyday travel less stressful for motorists.

What the project includes once completed?

According to RTA, the project will deliver a comprehensive road network upgrade across the area.

Key features include:

  • Four major intersections designed to reduce congestion and improve traffic efficiency
  • Bridges spanning around 4.3 kilometres, allowing uninterrupted traffic flow
  • Roads extending nearly 14 kilometres, improving connectivity between surrounding districts

The layout focuses on easing traffic pressure by separating local access from through traffic. This approach has already proven effective in other parts of Dubai, especially on major corridors upgraded over the past decade.

Once operational, drivers are expected to experience smoother journeys with fewer traffic signals and better route continuity.

Part of the wider Sheikh Rashid Corridor vision

The Oud Maitha and Al Asayel upgrade is not a standalone project. It forms part of the larger Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project, which aims to strengthen east-west connectivity across Dubai.

The corridor links several major areas and supports movement between older neighbourhoods and newer developments. Similar road expansions under this plan have already improved travel times in multiple zones.

Dubai’s approach to transport planning focuses on long-term needs rather than short-term fixes. Projects are designed with future population growth, vehicle numbers, and economic activity in mind.

For residents, this means better infrastructure that continues to support daily life, work commutes, and access to essential services.

How the project will impact residents and businesses?

While construction is still ongoing, the long-term benefits are expected to outweigh the temporary inconvenience.

For residents living nearby, the completed project should mean:

  • Faster and more predictable travel times
  • Reduced congestion during peak hours
  • Safer road conditions around busy intersections
  • Better access to hospitals, schools, and offices

Businesses in nearby commercial areas are also likely to benefit. Improved road connectivity supports smoother logistics, easier customer access, and reduced delivery delays.

For a city like Dubai, where time and efficiency matter, such upgrades directly contribute to quality of life.

Managing traffic during ongoing construction

With around 40% of the work still pending, some traffic diversions and temporary lane closures remain part of the process. RTA typically manages these changes through phased construction to keep disruption as low as possible.

Motorists using Oud Maitha Road or Al Asayel Street are advised to stay alert to road signs and follow updated traffic directions. Peak-hour delays may still occur in certain sections, especially during active construction phases.

Many Dubai drivers already rely on live navigation apps to adjust routes when needed, and this remains helpful until the project is fully completed.

A long-term investment in Dubai’s transport future

Major infrastructure projects take time, especially in high-density urban areas. The 60% completion milestone reflects steady progress on a development that will serve the city for years to come.

Dubai’s road network continues to evolve alongside its growth. Projects like the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street upgrade ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with the city’s ambitions.

For residents, commuters, and visitors, the finished project promises smoother drives and better connectivity across central Dubai.
