Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has extended cycling and e-scooter tracks in Hatta, as part of ongoing development projects. This initiative aims to provide residents and visitors with more commuting options and improve the area’s infrastructure.
Project Highlights
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has added 4.5km of dedicated and shared tracks for bicycles and e-scooters. This extension brings the total length of cycling tracks in Hatta to 13.5km.
A 2.2km walkway has also been constructed parallel to the new tracks. This offers pedestrians a safe and scenic route for walking, promoting an active lifestyle.
Improving Mobility Solutions
RTA’s initiative aims to provide alternative mobility solutions and integrate different transportation means. By developing inclusive infrastructure, the project offers a range of options for personal mobility across Dubai, including Hatta.
To support these new tracks, RTA has upgraded parking facilities at Wadi Leem Lake. A newly paved parking lot now accommodates 135 vehicles, and the gravel road connecting the parking lot to the main street has been upgraded with tiles that match Hatta’s natural landscape. Traffic and directional signs have been installed to ensure the safety of road users.
Enhancing Hatta’s Appeal
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), highlighted the project’s importance. “RTA’s strategy is to implement various improvement projects and provide multiple options for an exceptional mobility experience. This aligns with Hatta’s growth and popularity among residents and tourists. Hatta offers a unique location, environmental and cultural diversity, and recreational services for all community members.”
The new cycling track starts at the backyard of Hatta Community Centre, passes through the existing pedestrian bridge at Leem Lake, and connects with the existing track in Wadi Hatta Park. This seamless connection enhances the cycling experience and promotes the use of walking, cycling, and e-scooters.
Integrated Transport Solutions
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) focuses on enhancing mobility solutions and integrating transit means in Hatta. The project addresses first and last-mile requirements by linking development projects and tourist areas using sustainable mobility means. The aim is to provide integrated transport elements like cycling tracks, pedestrian crossings, rest areas, shaded paths, and parking.
This approach not only improves mobility but also supports environmental sustainability by encouraging the use of eco-friendly transportation options.
Infrastructure Improvements
Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently completed the construction of Hatta Souq Roundabout on Dubai-Hatta Road, ensuring smooth vehicle entry and exit from the Souq and reducing travel distance by 60%. Additionally, RTA completed a U-turn on Dubai-Hatta Road near Wadi Hub, facilitating vehicle entry and exit at tourist sites and improving traffic safety in Hatta.
Roads and Transport Authority: Future Plans
RTA plans to expand Dubai’s cycling tracks from 544km to 1,000km by 2030, connecting key coastal areas like Jumeirah and Marina to external tracks in Al Qudra and Nad Al Sheba.
RTA’s extension of cycling and e-scooter tracks in Hatta is a significant step towards providing diverse and sustainable mobility options for residents and tourists. This project enhances the infrastructure and promotes a healthy and active lifestyle. With continued efforts to expand and integrate transport solutions, Dubai is on its way to becoming a model city for sustainable urban mobility.
This project shows RTA’s commitment to improving life quality for residents and visitors by offering various transportation options and enhancing infrastructure. As Hatta grows in popularity, these initiatives will support its development and ensure a seamless mobility experience for everyone.
