Residents of Riyadh struggling with traffic congestion can soon expect a significant improvement. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has announced eight new infrastructure projects designed to enhance the city’s traffic flow and efficiency.

These projects are part of the second phase of the Riyadh Ring Roads and Main Axes Development Program, launched under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. With a total investment of SAR 8 billion, these upgrades will alleviate congestion, improve connectivity, and boost road capacity across the city.

1. Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road Development

  • Length: 6 km
  • Upgrades: Two major intersections, three bridges, and one tunnel
  • Traffic Capacity: 200,000 vehicles per day

2. Al-Thumama Road Axis Development

  • Length: 10 km
  • Upgrades: Five intersections, 11 bridges, and five tunnels
  • Traffic Capacity: 200,000 vehicles per day

3. Imam Abdullah bin Saud Road Expansion

  • Length: 9 km
  • Upgrades: Four main intersections, three bridges, and two tunnels
  • Traffic Capacity: 200,000 vehicles per day

4. Dirab Road Development

  • Length: 9 km
  • Upgrades: Two major intersections and nine bridges
  • Traffic Capacity: 340,000 vehicles per day

5. Imam Muslim Road Development

  • Length: 12 km
  • Upgrades: Four intersections and four bridges
  • Traffic Capacity: 200,000 vehicles per day
  • Future Plans: This will be extended as part of the Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road Axis

6. Road Network Enhancements Near King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD)

  • Length: 20 km
  • Upgrades: Three intersections and 19 bridges to improve access

7. Bridge at King Salman Road & Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Road Intersection

  • Objective: Connect King Salman Road in the east with Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Road in the north, ensuring smoother traffic flow

8. Engineering Modifications for High-Traffic Areas

  • Objective: Resolve congestion issues by improving key roads during peak hours
