Riyadh Metro Launches New Bus on Demand Service for Easy Commutes

Riyadh Metro launches Bus on Demand service to improve citywide connectivity

The Riyadh Metro has launched its new Bus on Demand service, making public transportation more convenient and accessible for residents and visitors. This new service is designed to connect passengers from key pick-up points to major transport hubs across the city, improving commuting efficiency and reducing travel times.

How the Bus on Demand Service Works

The Bus on Demand service, launched on March 17, 2025, currently operates across seven key zones in Riyadh. These zones were strategically selected based on population density and connectivity needs to ensure maximum convenience.

Key Zones Covered by the Service

The seven operational zones for the Bus on Demand service include:

  • Ghirnatah Zone
  • Aqiq and Hittin Zone
  • Yarmouk and Ishbiliyah Zone
  • Qurtuba, Al Wadi, Al Falah, and An Nada Zone
  • West Al-Uraija and Tuwaiq Zone
  • Andalus and An Nahdah Zone
  • Aziziyah Zone

By covering these zones, the service ensures that residents in major residential and business areas can easily access the Riyadh Metro, reducing reliance on private vehicles and enhancing public transport usage.

Booking and Accessing the Service

Passengers can book their rides through the Darb app, which is available on both iOS and Android platforms. The app offers a seamless experience, allowing users to:

  • Plan their trips – View available routes and estimated travel times.
  • Purchase tickets – Buy single or combined passes for the Riyadh Metro and Bus on Demand service.
  • Track buses in real-time – Monitor the location and arrival times of buses.
  • Request pick-ups – Schedule pick-ups at designated points.
  • Access parking details – Find available parking spots near bus stations.

The Darb app makes it easy for commuters to plan their journeys and minimize waiting times, ensuring a smooth and efficient travel experience.

Integrated with Riyadh’s Existing Public Transport

The Bus on Demand service is part of a broader effort to enhance Riyadh’s public transport infrastructure. It integrates seamlessly with the city’s existing network, which includes:

  • Six Metro Lines – Covering 176 km with 85 stations.
  • Comprehensive Bus Network – Offering 80 routes and over 2,860 stops.

This integration allows passengers to switch easily between buses and metro lines, reducing overall travel times and making public transport a more attractive option.

Ramadan 2025 Timings for Riyadh Metro and Buses

To accommodate increased travel during Ramadan, Riyadh Metro has adjusted its operating hours:

  • Sunday to Thursday – 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM
  • Friday – 12:00 PM to 3:00 AM
  • Saturday – 10:00 AM to 2:00 AM

Public buses, including the Bus on Demand service, will operate daily from 6:30 AM to 3:00 AM throughout Ramadan. These extended hours ensure that commuters can travel comfortably, even during late-night hours.

Why the Bus on Demand Service Matters

The launch of the Bus on Demand service reflects Riyadh’s commitment to improving urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion. By providing a more flexible and user-friendly transport option, the city aims to:

  • Encourage greater use of public transportation
  • Reduce traffic congestion and pollution
  • Improve overall commuting efficiency

The service aligns with Riyadh’s vision of becoming a leading smart city by combining technology and public infrastructure to offer more efficient mobility solutions.

Future Prospects for Riyadh Metro

Riyadh Metro is continuously working to improve its public transport network. The Bus on Demand service is expected to expand to more zones in the future, offering even greater coverage and convenience for commuters. Additional smart mobility features, including cashless payments and enhanced real-time tracking, are also expected to be introduced soon.

Riyadh Metro’s Bus on Demand service marks a major step towards transforming the city’s public transport system. With its flexible booking options, strategic zone coverage, and seamless integration with existing networks, it provides a smarter, more efficient commuting experience. As Riyadh continues to develop its public transport infrastructure, residents and visitors can look forward to even more improvements in the future.
