In an impressive show of global unity and athletic spirit, the Riyadh Marathon’s third edition witnessed a record-breaking turnout, with over 20,000 participants representing 125 countries. Hosted by the Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA), in collaboration with esteemed partners, the event showcased the power of sports in bringing people together.
Diverse Races for All Abilities
The marathon, held on February 10, offered a range of races to cater to everyone’s abilities and interests. Participants could choose from the full marathon (42.2km), half marathon (21.1km), a 10km race, or a family-friendly 4km run. This inclusive approach encouraged individuals of all ages and backgrounds to join in the festivities.

Record Female Participation
A notable highlight of this year’s marathon was the significant increase in female participation, with over 7,200 women taking part. This surge underscored the ongoing efforts to empower women through sports and promote gender equality on the athletic stage.

Among the elite marathon runners, athletes from various nations showcased exceptional talent and determination. Kenyan runner Kigen Wilfred Kirwa emerged as the top male finisher, while Ethiopian athletes Badane Bedatu Hirpa and Desta Nigist Muluneh secured top positions in the female category. These remarkable performances demonstrated the universal appeal and competitive spirit of the event.

The Riyadh Marathon not only celebrated athletic achievement but also aligned with the broader vision of promoting health and well-being. Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, President of the SFA, emphasized the role of such events in fostering a healthier and happier society, in line with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative.

The success of the Riyadh Marathon was made possible by the generous support of sponsors, including Saudi Awwal Bank, ROSHN, PepsiCo, ASICS, Twauniya, Genesis, and Al Arabiya. Their contributions, totaling US$197,000 in cash prizes, underscored the collective commitment to promoting a culture of fitness and inclusivity.
