As the curtain rises on the 10th edition of Reel Palestine, Cinema Akil, the distinguished independent cinema in the GCC, is set to host an extraordinary celebration of Palestinian stories. From January 26th to February 4th, Cinema Akil will be the epicenter of this annual film festival, a testament to a decade of commitment to the rich panorama of Palestinian narratives through independent and alternative cinema.
A Phoenix-Inspired Visual Journey
Presented by Bayt and supported by Bristol and Advanced Media, Reel Palestine 2024 draws inspiration from the Gaza City shield, symbolizing rebirth and renewal—a poignant reflection of the festival’s commitment and the enduring Palestinian value of steadfastness. This visual identity resonates like the fabled Phoenix, embodying the spirit of a community that rises from the ashes.
The Cinematic Embrace: Solidarity with Gaza
In solidarity with Gaza, this edition offers a compelling film program, spanning 12 feature films and documentaries, along with a short film program across 24 screenings. These films reflect the resilience, struggles, and triumphs of the Palestinian experience, complemented by masterclasses, workshops, and the annual souk.

Additionally, Jumana Manna’s “Foragers” transports the audience to the historic land of the Golan Heights, the Galilee, and Jerusalem.

Masterclasses and Workshops: Nurturing Cultural Dialogue
In addition to the film program, Reel Palestine’s 10th-anniversary edition invites cinephiles to partake in a series of masterclasses and workshops. Acclaimed filmmaker Mohanad Yaqubi will lead a thought-provoking session on 3rd Cinema & Trans-Global Solidarity, exploring the intersection of cinema and global movements for justice. Nezar Andary will delve into the intricate relationship between film and propaganda.
The Reel Palestine Souk: A Marketplace of Cultural Richness
The 10th-anniversary edition welcomes back the Reel Palestine Souk, returning as the largest market to date with over 50 small local businesses from the region and Palestine. Homegrown businesses will exhibit Palestinian crafts, books, fashion, spices, food, and more on January 27-28 and February 3-4.
