First time in 18 years, RCB won their first-ever IPL 2025 trophy and fans were over the moon! But while Royal Challengers Bangalore took a victory parade across the city, tragedy struck. A massive crowd led to a stampede that took several lives.
Victory Drenched in Tears: RCB’s First IPL Trophy Celebration Turns Into Tragedy
It was meant to be a dream day. Royal Challengers Bangalore finally brought home the IPL trophy in 2025 after a nail-biting season that had fans screaming their lungs out. But joy turned into horror when their victory parade in Bengaluru spiraled into a stampede that claimed 11 lives. The city that was supposed to echo with cheers witnessed something far more devastating.
As the crowd outside the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium turned uncontrollable, chaos erupted. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma took to their socials to share RCB’s official statement, echoing the heartbreak of the entire team. “Deeply anguished” was the phrase used but honestly, that doesn’t even scratch the surface.
They added that public safety is the top priority, and swiftly altered their celebration plans to align with government guidance. The message? Celebrate, yes. But not at the cost of lives.
Kamal Haasan’s Emotional Note
Even South superstar Kamal Haasan couldn’t stay silent. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he poured his heart out. Calling it a “heart-wrenching tragedy,” he offered condolences and prayed for speedy recoveries. Because what’s a win when lives are lost?
Heart wrenching tragedy in Bangalore. Deeply distressed and my heart reaches out to the families of the victims in this moment of grief. May the injured recover soon.

Karnataka Government Steps In: “We Failed To Anticipate This Crowd”
Karnataka’s Deputy CM also addressed the horrifying turn of events. While the stadium could hold 35,000, over 3 lakh fans showed up. A full-blown emotional avalanche followed his statement: “We are heartbroken… Words are not enough… Your pain is ours.” A meet-and-condole session with the victims’ families followed.
We are heartbroken by this tragic incident. This should have never happened.

We did not anticipate such an overwhelming crowd – while the stadium holds 35,000, over 3 lakh people had gathered.
To the families who have lost loved ones – we extend our deepest condolences. Words… pic.twitter.com/ExlnG9it8Y
RCB fans waited nearly two decades to lift that shiny trophy. From heartbreaks in 2009, 2011, and 2016, this win was the moment. But in the madness of massive crowds, unmanaged traffic, and pure fan frenzy, something snapped. What started as a parade turned into a nightmare that nobody saw coming.
This wasn’t just about cricket anymore. This was about lives lost in the madness of glory. While Kohli lifting that cup will go down in history, so will this painful reminder that no celebration should come at the price of human life.
