When you’ve served Indian cinema the way Deepika Padukone has, from being Bollywood royalty to slaying Cannes red carpets, you’ve earned the right to say, “Hey, I need to clock out after 8 hours.” That’s exactly what reportedly led to her stepping away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit. Now, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has yet again put his unfiltered opinions on the table.
Ram Gopal Varma deems Deepika Padukone’s Demand about 8-hour shifts an exaggeration
While the world is busy fuming over work hours and celeb “demands,” RGV’s reaction is basically: Why is everyone losing their plot? In a classic Varma-ism, he shut down the noise by calling the whole Deepika–Vanga showdown overhyped drama. According to him, “When it comes to having fixed shift timings for actors, I really think that it is an agreement between two people.”
8-Hour Shift: Diva Demand or Human Decency?
Deepika allegedly asked for a shorter working day because she’s a new mom now! What’s the big deal? If she wants to balance diapers and dialogues, shouldn’t that be celebrated instead of criticized? Ram Gopal Varma thinks so too. Each of them has a right to say what they want, and the other one has a right to refuse,” he said.
The whole thing (between Deepika and Sandeep) was a very exaggerated thing in my opinion. Because I can say, I want to work for 23 hours, and the actor can say I want to work only for one hour. That’s their call. But how can one human being force another human being to do something? And they can agree to work or not work with each other… But that thing was just kind of blown up in the media,” said RGV, reminding everyone that Bollywood isn’t a school where the bell decides your life. His point? It’s all negotiable.
What’s Brewing With Spirit Now?
With Deepika out of the picture, the Spirit squad has welcomed Triptii Dimri alongside Prabhas. The new-age heartthrob combo we didn’t know we needed. Directed by Kabir Singh and Animal mastermind Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Spirit is now gunning for a 2027 release and is expected to be everything but tame.
Let’s be real, after delivering powerhouse performances, representing India globally, and now stepping into mommy mode, Deepika asking for flexibility isn’t diva behaviour, it’s boss behaviour. RGV backing her with his ‘live and let work’ philosophy? That’s the real deal.
