Rakesh Roshan Defends Rekha
Whenever someone is as iconic as Rekha, therumourss fly like crazy. From her killer performances to her undeniable screen presence, people just can’t seem to mind their own business. But director Rakesh Roshan, who’s been a long-time friend of Rekha, just can’t stand the negative chatter.
In a recent chat, he shut down the haters, revealing that not once has he ever seen her do anything unprofessional. As he puts it, those who tried to drag her down with gossip clearly didn’t know what they were talking about!
He shared, “Rekha has a quality which very few heroines have. She is different in all her films. I did a couple of films with her as an actor – Khoobsurat, Aakraman and Aurat.”
The ‘Latecomer’ Rumors That Almost Ruined It All
When Rakesh Roshan was planning to cast Rekha for the iconic role in Khoon Bhari Maang, whispers were already swirling about her “unreliable” nature. People warned him she’d show up late, leave early, and just make everyone’s life a living nightmare. He revealed, “When I went to her with a mother’s role in Khoon Bhari Maang as a director, people warned me against her. They said you are making a film with her, she never comes on time, always runs away before time.”
Now, don’t think Rekha is all about the glamour and poise. When Rakesh approached her with the role, he had one question for her: “I asked her clearly, ‘You won’t give me any trouble na?’ She was like, ‘What are you even saying? Have I ever done this? I only trouble people who don’t pay me or they don’t fulfil their commitments.’ I said okay,” he recalled.
Rekha’s Surprising Role in Koi Mil Gaya
Rakesh reveals that he was the one who approached Rekha to play the role of Hrithik Roshan’s mother in Koi Mil Gaya. He shared, “I went to narrate the story to her. After narrating the story, I asked her, ‘How is it?’. She is very clever. She quickly said, ‘You are not narrating this story to me because you want my feedback, you are narrating this to me because you want me to play the role of the mother.’ I said, ‘Yes’.”
Rekha might be a screen goddess, but she knows how to keep it real and demand the respect she deserves. For those who doubted her professionalism? Rekha proved them all wrong
