Qatar Airways has just announced the introduction of the world’s fastest on-board Wifi, powered by SpaceX’s Starlink. This new service will be free for all passengers, enhancing the in-flight experience.
Important step
This move positions Qatar Airways as the first airline in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to offer such high-speed, low-latency internet on its flights. Passengers can now stream, work, play online games, or video call, all from 35,000 feet.
Expanding the Fleet
The first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 aircraft has already taken flight from Doha to London. Qatar Airways plans to upgrade 12 Boeing 777-300s by the end of 2024, with the entire Boeing 777 fleet equipped by 2025. The Airbus A350 fleet will follow in the summer of 2025.
A Commitment to Excellence
Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, emphasized their dedication to providing an exceptional in-flight experience. “With Starlink’s reliable and seamless internet, we’re connecting people to what they love most, even at 35,000 feet,” he said.
The Future of In-Flight Connectivity
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, assured that the service will continually improve. “This is the minimum, and it only gets better from here,” Musk noted during a video call with Al-Meer from 35,000 feet.
Enhancing Passenger Experience
With Starlink’s advanced satellite technology, passengers can expect download speeds of up to 350Mbps. This makes
activities like streaming, video calling, and gaming possible even at high altitudes. This service sets a new standard for in-flight connectivity.
Qatar Airways’ partnership with Starlink revolutionizes the airline industry, providing passengers with an unmatched in-flight experience. As the airline expands its Starlink equipped fleet, staying connected in the sky becomes easier and more enjoyable.
