From Will Smith and Sheikh Hamdan reaching atop Burj Khalifa to Ferrari World launching recording-breaking rollercoasters, anything and everything is possible in the UAE. And to add more substance to this statement, Polish Pilot and aerobat Luke Czepiela has created history by landing his plane on the 27-metre-wide helipad of Dubai’s Burj Al Arab hotel. Read on to know more.
Luke, who was preparing for this mission for two years, performed this stunt in an aircraft that was specially designed and modified for this stunt. Burj Al Arab took their Instagram and shared the video of this stunt, and we are in awe of it. They captioned the video: “Making history today, @Luke.Czepiela has become the first pilot to ever land a plane on top of a building, choosing Burj Al Arab Jumeirah’s famed helipad as his landing pad, in partnership with @RedBull & @RedBullUAE.”
Landing on the 56th floor of Burj Al Arab is no joke, and Red Bull Motorsports also shared this video and called it a “world first”. Dubai Media Office shared some pictures of the flight and the landing, and it looked breathtaking. You will be surprised to know that Luke had over 650 practice landings before making this final attempt, and landing on Burj Al Arab’s helipad was the first time he performed the stunt in real life.
Luke Czepiela is a former Red Bull Air Race Challenger Class World Champion and an Airbus A320 captain. The plane he flew is made by American manufacturer CubCrafters, known for its light aircraft. It weighs 425kg, is 7.1 metres long, 2.54 metres in height and has a wingspan of 10.44 metres.
After this stunt, Luke Czepiela has joined the likes of David Coulthard, who drove his Formula 1 car on the helipad, and Roger Federer and Andre Agassi, who played tennis in the same iconic spot. We cannot wait to see what else Burj Al Arab has in store for us.
